Maternity bras are especially designed to accommodate changes in your breasts providing breast and diaphragm support during pregnancy and when baby is born and ready for feeding, maternity bras have specially designed drop feeding cups.

As soon as there is a noticeable increase in the size of the bust you should be fitted for a maternity bra, as regular bras no longer fit properly or are uncomfortable to wear. As a general rule this usually occurs around the third to fourth month of pregnancy. At this time it is important to select a maternity bra that provides you with extra support, as well as flexibility to allow for breast size fluctuation and fluid retention.

At Triumph, we recommend that during pregnancy you do not wear an underwire bra. A soft cup is less restrictive through the underbust and will allow for growth. A soft cup bra actually provides as much support as an underwire bra due to the extra built-in support panels & fabric technology.

When choosing a maternity bra, you should also allow room in the upper cup for extra fullness when lactation begins. As a guide, you should be able to slide your hand into the upper section of the cup to assess if there is enough room for expansion. However, the lower cup should still fit well for support.

Depending on bust development, you should have another bra fitting at approximately 7 months. If you feel your maternity bra is restrictive in any way you should have your fitting checked immediately.

For approximately six weeks following the birth of your baby, you will still need the support for your breasts, shoulders, neck and back of a maternity bra, even if you not carry on breastfeeding during this six week period. If you are breastfeeding, you should continue to wear a maternity bra until you have weaned your baby off the breast.

Extended Hooks & Eyes
Triumph maternity bras are made with 6 hooks and eye pieces. At 3 ?4 months of your pregnancy your bra should be fitted on the tightest hook and eye fastenings to allow for growth across the back and diaphragm.

On average an expecting mother's bra size should move down one hook per month, although this may vary from woman to woman.

Bra straps
Maternity bra straps are positioned closer to the centre back so when you do go to the last hook & eye, bra straps will not slip off the shoulders. This has been designed with diaphragm expansion in mind.

Drop Feeding Cups
The cup of a maternity bra must be able to be completely dropped so your baby can feed comfortably.

Cushioned side support panels or an 'A' Frame controls the position of the bust, while allowing full exposure of the breast when the cup is dropped for nursing. These panels also help to keep the bra strap in place while feeding.
