the peace of mind the movement monitor provides is certainly worth the money - and that feature seems to work well, even under a full size cot mattress. The downside is that we get a considerable amount of interference from the sound monitor, regardless of which channel we're on, and regardless of where we put the monitor. This interference is so bad we're thinking about buying another monitor for the sound part, and only use the Angelcare model for the movement (though reading the other monitor reviews it seems most are susceptible to interference)

I received this monitor as a gift at my baby shower and it has been the best baby item I've owned. Although we get mild static and interference from the neighbour's monitor, this is common to most monitors - I was a Nanny for several years and found this problem with all brands. Katie suffers terrible reflux and as a small baby also suffered laryngal spasms. These spasms essentially meant that after a reflux vomit, her airways would spasm and seize up - blocking her ability to breathe. The first one happened in front of me and to see my baby going red in the face, then blue and limp with exhaustion and lack of air was terrifying. Fortunately it seemed that holding her upright and tilted forward with a firm pat on the back relaxed it and she'd start breathing again, but if I didn't do this immediately, she would lose consciousness before her body would relax enough to allow air through again. Not a desirable situation! With the monitor I knew that one of these episodes couldn't occur without my intervention and sure enough on three occasions they happened and the alarm went off. I've never moved so fast in my life! Without the movement monitor, I wouldn't have known and may have lost my girl. Even without these health issues, I love the monitor. I never fretted over her, nor felt the need to 'poke her to make sure she is still breathing' as my friends did with their babies. Now she is a rampaging 3 year old and I have it in her bed. When she gets up in the morning and terrorises the cat, she can't figure out how we know what he is up to, and it has become quite an effective wake-up alarm for us too!

This monitor is fantastic - we lent our first one (bought back in 2001) to friends and then got the newer version (with 2 sensor pads) for our 2nd child (2005).
Really sensitive so all sounds and movements were picked up. We were quite worried about SIDS but for the first year, but this put our mind at rest, knowing the alarm would go off if there was no movement/breathing. Parents monitor worked well on battery and out in the yard. Only thing we did find with the first model was that sometimes through the parents monitor, we could hear conversations of strangers - people on the phone plus our neighbours who also had a monitor. We haven't experienced this with the current model available.
