Australia has an excellent education system, comprising public (state-run) and private (fee-paying) schools. The information that we have included is general with relevant links and contact details provided for education bodies should your child have particular education needs or should you have any queries relating to your child(ren).

Starting and finishing ages, the names of early schooling years, as well as birthday cut-off dates for entry into a particular year, can vary from state to state, and so to keep things clear, we've created a separate page for each state or territory.

We do suggest looking at the information relating to education in your region even if your children are well below school age. Some schools - particularly non-compulsory early education (such as kindergarten in some states) and private schools can require places to be booked long before your child is due to attend - some even from birth or 1 year of age. Places can be booked up very early and you could miss out if you don't realise that you need to get your name down early. Don't get caught out!
