Birth story: “I missed my baby’s birth”

Our gorgeous daughter was due on April 28, however still no movements were happening and I was admitted to hospital on the night of April 30 for induction.

The nurses checked my uterus and it hadn’t even thinned out in preparation for birth so they put in the gel and said “have a good sleep we will see you in the morning”.

And so it began …

Contractions started one hour apart from midnight; at 3am they were 10mins; 5 mins and 2 mins apart however baby’s head had turned past the entrance to my uterus.

The nurses connected the monitor to check her heart which was dropping to 60bpm with each contraction.

My OB was called and decided for emergency c-section; BUT the on-call anaesthetist was 40 mins away – my OB said that was too far and the epidural wouldn’t be quick enough so the decision was made to put me under general anaesthetic!RESIZE-birthstory

Into theatre at 5:55am and Ella was born healthy with a big scream and cry (so I’m told at 6:19am on May 1 (labour day….)!!!

My DH wasnt able to come into theatre either, but the OB bought him in (with camera) as she was being pulled out. Which also required forceps as she was too high.

I was exhausted, yet exhilarating that my long-awaited and much-wanted daughter was born.

I saw her for the first time at 9:30am that morning!!
