After weeks of soaking up the Queensland sunshine in t-shirts, bathers, and thongs, we welcomed a change of outfits today by getting the kids frocked up for the theatre.
Lynley Dodd’s much-loved books are a favourite in our home so Hairy Maclary & Friends was one show that we were yanking at the collar to go and see.
Of course we loved every minute of it. Lively, loud, and colourful, the show is a charming adaptation of the stories featuring costumed versions of the scruffy pooches. Audience participation had the kids interacting with the performances throughout the show, and it was great to see so many of the adults getting involved as well. (Stamping your feet when asked to is impossible not to do, I don’t care how old you are!)
The music is energetic (if not a little yappy at times) and the costumes are simply adorable. The pacing, content and bones of the production are delightfully age-appropriate, and the running time of the performance is perfect to keep the entire audience enthralled the whole way through.
A bite of theatrical magic, Hairy Maclary & Friends is playing at QPAC until 25 January; tickets $39. You’d be barking mad to miss it!
