Default My Baby Girl

A day after my EDD I decided that I wasn't going to sit around all day waiting to go into labour so I went out with DH for the day. After a long busy day we got home at about 6:45pm. I had been having a few irregular contractions throughout the day but they hadn't been painful so I didn't pay attention to them. At about 7pm the contractions became regular and painful so I started timing them and they were 3 mins apart lasting 90 sec each, so I rang the hospital. They said to come in and get checked out so off we went up to the hospital. It was really busy up there that night so we didn't get checked out until about 8:30-9pm. They monitored us for a few hours and did an internal which showed I was 1.5cm dilated. At about 11-11:30pm they gave me some panadeine and sleeping tablets then sent me home. About 1:30am the contractions were too painful for me to handle so we went back up to the hospital, internal showed I hadn't dilated any further so they gave me some pethadine to help me sleep, sent DH home and put me in the maternity ward(sorry to the ladies I shared a room with!).
About 6am I was in way too much pain to stay in the ward anymore and my parents had shown up at the hospital again so they did an internal and I was 6cm! They rang DH and told him to come back up and sent me to labour ward where I was straight into the hot shower with gas.
As the gas wasn't doing anything except sending me dizzy so they prepared an epi for me. At 7am they put in the epi but I was 9cm so it didn't really do much to help the pain. Not too long later I felt the urge to push and after 2-3 hours of pushing she was born at 9:54am - almost 15 hours after the contractions first became regular!
Due to trying to come out with her head on it's side bub had a nasty bruise on her head, but was otherwise in perfect health at 6lb 7oz.
After some stitching and some time with bub I was put in the shower whilst the pediatrician(sp???) checked her out. All was fine so I was given some lunch and we were off to the maternity ward - happy and healthy!

Congratulations on that fantastic news. Sounds like a huge couple of days for you. My bub also came out sideways. It's quite a hard push isn't it.

Hope you're recovering well and enjoyed Christmas with your little miracle.
