Default My story

Hi, just want to share my birth story of my baby, I went into laour on Friday the 7th of October, and I had her on Sunday the 9th of October, I was 9 days overdue with my first bub and before labour my bub hadnt dropped/engaged at all. So here is my story..........

When I had my bubby I got my first contraction and 12 hours later they where strong enough that I was in a fair bit of pain and they were around 70 sec's long and 5mins apart, but irregular. so my dh rang hospital and they said not to come in yet, as they werent long enough and not close enough apart. So 4 hours later we rang again and asked to come in and she said 'ok if you feel you should' (Oh my god it was my first baby, id been getting contractions for 16hours). So when we went in the contractions went from 4 mins apart to 10 minutes apart, she monitered (sp??) me and told me that I was in Pre-labour (WHAT). Told me to come back at 10am, this was at 4 in the morning. So we went home I layed in the bath until 8am, mostly crying as I was in pain and I thought that I shouldnt have been in labour this long. We went back to the hospital at 10am and I got monitored, the babys heartbeat was goingup and down from 56 to 190 beats a minute, but then went back to normal, the midwife said I could go home (again), I asked if I could stay another hour just to see, so one hour later she saw me crying and asked if i wanted an internal, I was 6cm dilated, so they let me stay. from then on I stood in the shower for 4 hours, I kept asking for pain relief and they kept telling me I had to wait, 2hours later at 4 pm I got some pethidine, that wore off 2 hours later and I was told I couldnt have anything else. When I was fully dialated it was 8.30pm,they then broke my waters, she had pooed in them, I pushed for 2 hours, I demand a doctor as she hadnt moved much downwards, the kept saying I had to wait, eventually I got a dr and he gave me an internal and told me I had to have a c-section as my baby was stuck at station -1. This was at 10.40pm, they had to wait for the on call staff to come in, so they put in my IV and my catheder (sp??) without pain relief, mean while telling me I could keep pushing if I needed to and it could help. one hour later they put in the spinal, and I had my bub at 12.05am 37 hours from my first contraction. My c-section took one and half hours as my uterus stopped contracting due to the stress of a long labour, and I lost over a litre of blood. I had to have a blood transfusion that day. My bub was a little girl, she weighed 8lbs 2 ozs. I was told by the dr that did my c-section, that from everything he knew about my labour and pregnancy from my notes, I shouldnt have had to be in labour that long or at all as I have a funny shaped pelvis and the baby could not go through, and my Ob should have picked up that as I hadnt engaged before birth (I was 9days over) and my bub was a fair size. All I can say is Id do it again as I love my bubby so much, and that I wont be going back to the same ob. It will be a elective c-section for me though. Thanks for listening to my birth story.

E

thanks for sharing your story isnt it funny, some midwives/hospitals have rates of to much intervention, whereas in your case there wasnt enough, soon enough. i am glad it all worked out in the end though, good for you, it sounds like you were a real trooper

Sounds like you did really well, you should be proud, that was a huge effort.

I had a similar labour, bub was big and never engaged. I narrowly missed a caesar so ended up with tearing and episotomy etc. Next time will be an elective caesar!!

Best of luck with the next one and Merry Christmas!!

Thank you for sharing your story with us, ewells, what an ordeal for you!I had a big baby whose head was stuck in my pelvis, therefore I never dilated enough for a natural birth, but I didn't go through nearly half the trauma you went through!

Congratulations on the (eventual) safe arrival of Kailey

WOW !
Im glad well not glad but you know what i mean heh when i say someone who was like me
Its not fun is it but i was "lucky" in that i managed to get bubs out with the ventouse but i was shredded in the process due to him being stuck anyways if you want to complain to someone who understand PM me anytime
You did well anyways & having bubs in your arms is the greatest reward for all the trauma & pain !
