Post exercise dvd 4 pregnancy & postnatal

hiya folks.

newbie here. first post, though have been looking at the site for a bit and am really enjoying it.

anyhoo just wonder if anyone has recommendations for pregnancy/postnatal exercise dvd's?

I spoke to one physiotherapist through the hospital I am going to (RPA, Sydney) who recommends Preggie Bellies Exercise for Pregnancy.

But just wondering if anyone here has recommendations or advise.

Hi Renee,

I got a couple of excellent pre-natal yoga DVDs that I'd happily recommend.

I hadn't done yoga before my pregnancy, and ended up going to yoga baby classes in Brisbane once a week - it was great to be with other pregnant women, and part of the class also involved us telling what was happening - it was great hearing other's experiences - kind of like being here - you can always find someone who is going through the same problems you are. So I'd also recommend finding a yoga class for pregnant women if you can. Anyway, the yoga classes stopped over Xmas, and I ordered these DVD's.

The upside was that I could do the yoga more than once a week, the downside is that I ordered them from Amazon over the internet, so I'm not sure if that is something you'd be comfortable doing.

My favourite DVD is "Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea", the other one is still really good, and is more aerobic is "Leisa Hart's Fitmamma Prenatal Workout".Both are very safe and remind you not to overdo it. Both have women in the 3 Trimesters, with modifications for each that are easy to follow. Both do kegel exercises, calf stretches, pelvic exercises, deep breathing.

I guess I like the Shiva Rea one better because it is more like the Yoga baby class I went to, and the end of the DVD has a really good relaxation section. I'll often follow the relaxation session with a nice music CD and continue to relax - and even have a nap! At the end of it I, even if I was tired before, I feel both relaxed and energised.

I'm still happy with the Leisa Hart one - it's a great workout, my thighs really felt it, and I soon got more fit aerobically - taking it at my own pace. I like to alternate between the two.

Sorry if I've gone on a bit too long, but I'm really sold on the yoga, and plan to get some more DVD's after the baby comes .

Thumbs up

BJelly,

thanks for your reply. I am fortunate enough as well to have access to the hospitals yoga classes, which like you I LOVE. So I appreciate your recommendations. I have ordered today the preggi fitness dvd - see how it goes and will likely order a further yoga one as well to be able to alternate different modalities.

Cheers again,

Renee.

I have a great video for post-natel exercise it's called 'Getting Back' it is broken up into 2 45 min sections, 1 do to straight after you have had the baby and 1 for after your 6 week check. I believe it is widely available in shops etc but let me know if you would like the supplier.

It is really simple ( you don't need to be co-ordinated ) and it really helped my get my figure back.
