Default Birth of Cooper Patrick

Well.... here's the story...

I awoke at about 1am Wednesday morning (15.3.06) with a bit of period pain, thought nothing of it until i woke up a second time with the same pain, then started to think maybe i was in labour - i kept falling asleep so couldn't tell if they were coming or going or if it was the same pain, so i woke myself up a bit and realized they were coming every 7 minutes and lasting about 30 seconds.

So now there was no way i was going back to sleep, so i got up and watched a bit of tv - i had no idea how bad it is at that time of night! - and walked around a bit. It didn't take long for them to be about 5 minutes apart and last about 45 seconds.

I went into the hospital around 8.30am and they hooked me up to a monitor thingo which i hated cuz i had to lie down. When the nurse came in she was about to do an internal, and told me she didn't think i would be very far dilated as my contractions didn't seem 'bad enough yet' and i will probably have to go home for a few more hours, my heart sank! But then she found i was four centimetres, so my hopes went straight back up again! But she let me go home for a few hours anyway as she thought i would be happier at home and would probably progress a lot better.

So i went home for a few hours, then went back in only a few hours later after some pethadine, so they admitted me and gave me the needle. I stayed in the room they assigned me with other women with their babies for a few hours, which i also hated as i felt bad thinking i was being too loud.

After a few hours - i can't remember how long, they let me go into the birthing room, which was great - they had a massive bath! I got them to fill it up, when it was about half way full i decided i wanted nothing to do with it and sat on the toilet for about ten minutes, and had a bloody show, then all i wanted to do was push... and of course it was too early and i wasn't aloud to.

After a little bit, i moved to the bed and asked for some gas, the first breath was great then i didn't feel the next or any others did anything for me, but it did kinda distract me when i needed distracting.

After what felt like forever, they let me start pushing - i tell you that is the best feeling!! I ended up pushing for 52 minutes and got to feel his head as he was coming out, and mum lifted me up so i could see him come out, i think i saw it but i can't remember for sure, i just remember them putting my beautiful little boy on my stomach and saying oh my god over and over.

Mum cut the cord, and they showed me the placenta, which was a bit torn.

I ended up getting a pretty big tear, and got stitched up which wasn't fun, then they took my little man away and gave him his bath and weighed him etc, he weighed in at 4090gms, just over 9 pounds, and got 9/10 for his apgar test at 1 minute, then 10 at five minutes.

It is still alittle blurry towards the end, due to the gas no doubt, but i was over the moon, and still am. I had a pretty easy labour compared to a lot of people and am extremely thankful of that.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this, it isn't as good as some, but i thought i would type it up before i completely forgot.

Thanks for reading!

What a great story!! I dont remember much of my birth at the end either!! I think the exhaustion makes it all a blur, that way we keep going back for more

Seriously though well done & welcome little Cooper!!
