Default Easter Bunny or Easter Bilby?

When it comes to Easter in Australia and buying gorgeously foiled chocolate, do you think we should be honouring the Easter Bunny or staying true to a cute little native Aussie animal, the Easter Bilby?

How do you and the kids have fun with Easter? Share your ideas on Easter craft and games to play.

We don't have either!!! We have the easter rooster!!! LOL, she used to say rooster when she couldn't pronounce easter. Now she swears its called rooster bunny as the rooster lays the eggs(???) and the bunny brings them to our house!!!

In our house we celebrate the easter bunny. I think because both of our families did so we are just following traditions.

Our children and I do make a few crafty things leading up to the day. They have to be really quick as they have short attention spans
Last year we made
A chick in an egg
You need an egg carton, cotton wool/straw, glue and a yellow chick.
Cut one egg section out, glue the wool/straw into the egg carton, then sit the chick in.

Rabbit face mask
You need paper plates, scissors, glue, cotton wool, textas and string/elastic.

This one is easy.. Just draw a rabbits face on the plate (older children can do this if they want) cut the eyes out, then using another plate cut 2 ears out. Glue the ears on to the face Mask. Children then colour in the mask or glue cotton wool on it. Attach string/ elastic and all done.

Colour in pages. You can download heaps of the net

Another one we do is the easter basket so when they do the easter egg parade they can put them in there.

Last year we made easter hats as well. Lots of fun but a bit time consuming for DS.

This year I am making the easter cards for family so they will help with that.

We may make chocolate or dyed eggs as we have in the past but this year I am making my own hot cross buns so they will help with that I think.

On Saturday night we build a huge nest with ripped up newspaper and catalogues. Then we put carrot and lettuce on a plate for Easter Bunny.
We have a book called Peter Cotton Tale which we read as their bedtime story. Then sing a few songs like Little Peter rabbit etc.

Sunday Morning the kids get up and we see what Easter bunny has left. As our family unit we have a breakfast of eggs (usually dyed) and toast cut into soldiers and fresh juice.
After breakfast we head outside and always find Easter Bunny has left eggs hiding in special places. So we have an easter Egg hunt.

Usually head to mums for late lunch, which is always a Roast with lots of extra's. Mum always does an easter egg hunt for the grandchildren.

Evening spent at the inlaws, depends the year as to what SIL demands as to whether we go for lunch or Tea. We don't do much for the kids just hand the eggs out and chat.

My daughter gets the Easter Bilby. Well she did last year, before that she was a bit little for chocolate. Each year she gets a set of clothes, a book, and a dvd and last year was the first year she had chocolate, the year before she had a yoghurt bunny from Go Natural.

Bunnies.

More variation in chocolate brands, and Bilbies are quite unattractive little things... bunnies are too cute!
