Smile Yummy recipes

Just wondering whether others would like to share recipe ideas for our little ones. I bought a fantastic book by Annabel Karmel that had all these lovely ideas. Jakob is not interested. Prefers a lot of finger foods.

All ideas welcomed

Unhappy Baby food

I have that same book by Annabel Karmel but Georgia (10mths)seems to go for the finger food too. I think I am boring her to pieces by giving her same stuff all the time. Anyway, a few of the things that I give her that you might like to try with Jacob include fruit puree(usually pear or apple/prune) with yoghurt (loves petit miams), she loves the corners of pitta bread cut off so you can fill with avocado, tuna, hommus, cheese slice (all or some of these combos), she loves finger slices of paw paw, honey dew melon, rockmelon, dried apple rings. The Heinz fruit gels aren't too bad as they seem to be fairly natural - by the ingredient listings anyway. I also make her banana custard up which she enjoys. For dinner, I still try to get puree into her as she has no teeth yet (although from the last few nights of no sleep, i guess we are almost there!),so chicken/vege, she likes shepherd's pie puree, macaroni/cheese & vege puree, I usually give this to her in a suction bowl with either thin toast fingers or carrot fingers to dip as she will only let me feed her yoghurt or custard on spoon now. On Dad's Day i made Troy French toast for brekky and gave G some, she devoured them so i guess that was a hit! Any ideas from your end?

Smile Recipes

Hi,

I am always on the look out for new and interesting things to feed Breanna. I have a book by Annie Opray which is pretty good. Breanna is now 17 mths and has her favourite foods such as:

Omelette sort of thing - she loves vegetables, eggs and cheese so I mix all three (2 eggs, .5 cup of vegies, milk and cheese) and fry in non stick pan until cooked. She almost never knocks it back.

Pasta !!! is another favourite. It is so versatile. I make a tuna mornay (white sauce with tuna in springwater and cheese) puree it and serve on pasta. Bolognaise (good way of having her eat meat which is not a favourite) Macaroni cheese, she swallows this without chewing to enable her to eat it as quick as possible.

Stewed apple, pear (1 minute in microwave, so it is just tender)

Tinned peaches and pears

Fruit gel (golden circle etc) is a must at least once a day.

For lunch just about every second day she has vegetables with a small tin of baked beans heated with cheese on top. She loves this even though it may not sound too good, but as mentioned earlier she loves vegetables.

Her biggest fad at the moment is popcorn. She would eat this 24/7 if allowed.

I would love to hear of any others favourites.

Sue

Hi girls,

I will give grace egg and tomato sometimes for lunch, she loves it. Just a cooked egg with a little bit of soft yolk and a peeled and cooked tomato mashed together.

But I would love lots of recipes. Bring them on. If we all just added one we would have a fantastic selection to choose from.

Thumbs up Receipe Section

Hiya guys

I've actually created a section within the community where viewers can offer recipes - I probably need to make it more obvious! It's outside of the forum, but I thought it would be an easier way to save viewer recipes and find them easily, rather than having to scroll through posts within a forum.

If you have a look at this page here...http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/recipes.htm you'll see that I've made a start, but I haven't had many recipes yet!

If I made a more obvious link to this from the forum section, do you think this would work better than just putting stuff in the posts? I think the forum is great for ideas (rather than formal recipes).

Also very jealous that your children try so many different foods! I've got the Annabel Karmel book too but get so frustrated everytime I make something yummy for my kids and they won't even try it. I have to two worst eaters and lightest children!

Look forward to your thoughts.

Hilary

Default Baby food

Thanks Hilary
Will have a look at the beginning of your recipe section and see if I can add a few, though I may have to get to that tonight or tomorrow.

Thumbs up Success!

Jakob ate most of his dinner tonight!

Zucchini slice and corn on the cob. Jakob was more fascinated by the corn than the slice and had a good gnaw. I am going to make up a batch of risotto tomorrow to see if that goes down well.

I keep forgetting to boil up some eggs Gemma but will do some tomorrow, my Mum said I just about lived off them when I was young

The baked beans sounds yum Sue and Jakob loves fruit gel too

I haven't tried dried fruit yet Rosie. Would dried apricots be OK too? I haven't had the apple rings for ages! Jakob did like some toasted ham and cheese triangles I made him for lunch the other day.

Thanks ladies

Smile

Well the risotto didn't work though he has a fascination for fettucine so will be making some up tonight.

Gemma the egg didn't go done well, but am still going to try egg salad sandwiches and maybe an omelette.

As for the baked beans. Well I made a toasted s/w with that and some cheese. Jakob wasn't fussed but I loved them!!!

Also will be picking up some dried fruit in the shopping today.

Jakob also liked this dip we had at a party yesterday. It had pureed chicken, tomato, onion amoungst other things. Will have to get the recipe.

Noodles! it's just hilarious watching them eat them with their fingers!

A couple of things I thought of while reading through the thread; microwaves remove a lot of the nutrients in food so it is better to stew things slowly if possible. Even better if you can consume that little water that they are cooked in too so that nothing goes to waste (there are water-soluble vitamins afterall). Also, baked beans are a thoroughly healthy food and a vegetable too, but look for the low salt versions as baby's kidneys can't process salt until around twelve months I believe. Vegemite is loaded with salt so shouldn't be on the list until twelve months really, same goes for stock and gravy.

Can't think of any other foods as it's so long since I did this, but I'm remembering these ready for #2 next year
