Default Does she have colic @ 6 weeks?

Ive been having a lot of issues settling my little girl, especially between the hours of 6 and 10 in the evenings. I know these hours are considered as the witching hours but how can I rule out that it isnt colic???? She was so much easier to settle earlier on. I breast feed. Ive also been told she is going through a growth spurt. Ive tried all sorts of settling ideas, such as swaddling, singing, bathing, nappy checks, feeding on demand, rocking.
I dont want to use a colic remedy unless I can be sure she really has it. Im trying to be really patient but after 5 hours of trying to settle her it can really be hard and stressful for DH and myself.

u know she has colic when she tries to bring her feet up to her tummy and doesnt want to lie flat etc.

give her bit of gripe water (colic remeedy from chemist), it wont do any harm and it will help if it is colic. colic is just air bubbles that irritate the bubs tum.

i used it for no.1 and it worked and i used it for no.2 and it definitely works. they burp or fart straight away.

another thing if u dont wanna use colic relief is to boil some water and make up some peppermint tea for them and give them few sips - does the same thing.

    good luck . x

Like the previous poster said with colic they bring their legs up in pain, they also tend to do it around the hours you mention.

If it was reflux, she would arch backwards and play around a lot with her bottle/breast and have a hard time to feed.

With colic the absolute best way for my eldest son was to teach him to burp, before he rarely did then he started screaming so I would sit until he did a burp every time and it soon got better.

Like everyone else said up above

The gripe water is a good idea too, I used this with Summer when she was a few months old and it worked a treat.

Just check the age on the bottle first because I can't remember how old they had to be to have it

I don't have much advice on colic as such but when my bub was between 6-8 weeks old I had exactly the same problem. He was a nightmare to settle even though there didn't seem to be anything really wrong with him. Apparently this can be quite common at that age.
The one thing I found that worked like magic was 'white noise'. I started putting the vacuum cleaner on and within minutes he had stopped crying and dropped off to sleep. I ended up buying a CD of a vacuum cleaner going because it was the only thing that would settle him. According to the experts it helps them shut out the world and/or sounds similar to all the noises they heard in the womb.
Anyway, if it's not colic, it's worth giving the vacuum cleaner a go. You've got nothing to lose by trying it and the neighbours will think you're a clean freak lol

and to you... it's such a tough time. I think back to these days with Ronan, and I actually do think that it was the hardest/most stressful time of my life.

I don't have any magic suggestions, but did want to pop in here to let you know that 6 weeks is often regarded as the 'peak' for all this- when it is usually at it's worst. It can only get better

Just wanted to say that last night was a huge improvement on the night before when I posted this question re my baby girls settling problem!
Ive tried a few things since. I now change her prior to feeding, then burp her really well, then I keep her sitting on my lap or as elevated as possible so that she avoids chucking up. She seems to like the elevated position! I dont believe in control crying and would freak if I heard my little girl crying for longer than a minute but last night I left her crying in her cot for only a few minutes and she fell asleep on 2 occasions! Ive also cut down on feeding her and only offering it to her on demand as the doctor suggested as she has put on a bit of weight! She seems to get better as the night goes on.
Thanks guys for your suggestions. Yes stressful time indeed!

He might just have a bit of wind which is normal, I wouldn't consider it colic yet if its only every now and again

i'mso glad you are finding a few things which are working! Yay!! My second son had colic for about 7 months, and it was definitely definitely the hardest time of my entire life. I found the traditional gripe water helped (dill water) and also used the Brauers Colis relief, and a Homoeopathic remedy at different times.

With the colic remedies, i found they worked best if I gave them regularly during the day, not just at night when everyhing turned to custard, it was too late by then.

I sincerely hope your little girl is at the '6 week peak' of unsettled behaviour, and she settles from now on.

I also found a sling to carry baby in very good, I could keep that good upright position, and baby would sleep well in there with my body heat.
