Default "But Why Mum... Why, Why ????"

Aaarrgghhhh we have hit the dreaded "Whys??"

A general convo between myself and 3 yr old Samuel

    "What's this Mum?"

    "Its a potato peeler"

    "why?"

"because you use it to peel the skin of potatos"

    "But Why?"

"Because if I want to cook the potatos sometimes I need to take the skin off first"

    "But Why Mum?"

*clenched teeth* "Because sometimes you want the skin off your potato and when you do you use a potato peeler"

so on so forth until I run away screaming and pulling my hair out

So how long should this stage last ????

PLEASE tell me it doesnt last long

    Your post made me laugh...

I totally feel ur pain hun.. My DS is 4 and we are still going thru it.. less intense now, but his just so interested in how EVERYTHING works in the world... no make that the universe.

Its so cute but can sometimes grate on the nerves.

My trick is to put music on and dance.. its the only thing that stops the questions being fired my way.. gives me a break for 5 minutes to re-fuel

    BUT WHHHYYYYYYY...????????

    Why?????
Because y is a crooked letter and you can't straighten it!

It would infuriate me as a kid when my mother would say this. Now as a mother I say the same thing after DS asks why for the 100th time. It sometimes works and they stop asking why well for a bout 1/2hour at least

Don't worry it will end, can't remember how long it took with DD but it did end.

Finally you can feel my frustration! I have been here for a while. I have found that anything I can't answer, we go and look up on the internet. The time that takes usually distracts her for long enough to forget the question.

See, I've got a plan for this.

As soon as Asher gets to that stage, I'm going to pre-empt him.

"Look daddy I drew a horsie"

    "Why?"

    Rinse and repeat.

    We have this too.

My DH is the sort of person that believes you have to answer each question until the very end. It's challenging isn't it?

They learn so much at this age

DD - Our miracle little girl

Tell me about it!! it is soooooo frustrating but then I know what they're going thru as we all did it to our parents too... its funny coz when u say the actual answer to why and they still don't get it so u have to repeat but say it differently.. sometimes I say for example that potato incident I would say something like would u like to eat the skin?? if they say no u're in luck and then say hmm thats why! its the only way to get them to be quiet til the next why!!!

    mum: because it is

    me:why?

mum: because it is i dont know why the sky is blue,no one knows it just is and that is all i know about it..and i dont know why i dont know more but i dont simple as that.
