    Thumbs down Cold Sores

I have one atm and I think that they are the most horrid disgusting things in this world however I get them because my Mum gets them and my Grandmother got them

Someone please tell me that there is something out there that stops them! I know you can get creams and such for when the suckers pop up but I'm talking something that stops them from coming at all...

There are a lot of pharmacuetical remedies but you can also take amino acids in tablet form (from the health food shop, chemist or vitamin section of the supermarket). There is actually a vitamin blend of Lysine and if you take them as soon as you can feel it, you can usually ward it off. If you need something topical, try iodine as the commercial products are not really all that nice and you can eventually just build immunity to them.
The bad news, I'm afraid, is that they are viral, so once you have one, you have the virus in your system for good.

    Lysine

It is awesome, take it every day, and it should prevent them from coming.

I used to get them all the time, haven't had one in can't remember when!

Lysine is the trick.. although I still get them But hardly as much as I used to.

I take Lysine every day (When I remember) as a preventative measure
If I feel a coldsore coming I take one tablet every hour for the day.. completely stops it in its tracks

I get them too, I have tried Lysine which was good, but can't be bothered to take them all the time. I don't bother using anything anymore. I have to say though I have not been getting them as much as I used to. I have tried so many different things, I don't really think any of them do much.

I have tried EVERYTHING! Lysine didnt do anything for me. My advice is try and keep healthy and stress free.

During my TEE (end of year 12 exams in WA) I had 17 coldsores.....not a good look. I am pretty sure stress is my main trigger.

There was some awesome cream that used to be on the market called Abbotts cold sore balm, which numbed the area and cleared them up really quickly. It is not available anymore though. I know a lady who tried to get it worldwide and it is no longer produced.

    Goodluck!

I've got one at the moment too

I've never heard of Lysine, might have to give that a go. I get them whenever I'm under the weather or stressed.

I've tried alot of the ointments, none seem to work
