My dd is turning 1 in july as well.

We are going to have a bbq party at the beach for her as she loves to play in the sand.

I will have dd in some sort of cute costume...maybe a princess or little piglet and Jayce will be in a costume too. I will probably wear a cape coz i'm weird and like dressing up too.

I think I'll do cut up fruit, pikelets, fairy bread, crackers and dip and gourmet sausages cut up.

Salads and chicken vege kebab skewers for the adults.

I will do a pass the parcel, we will prob have a few kids there, bubbles and take some balls.

Probably do brownies for the cake. Sing some songs, (i have a nice colection of finger puppets that i sing with dd each day) build a few castles, that sort of thing.

Hope that gives u a few ideas.

My advice is to keep it simple as it is very hectic and choose a child safe place. Also a mid morning party as kids seem to mostly get tired around lunch time/early afternoon.

I chose Nelson Park at Alex as it is fenced, had sausages on a BBQ and salad and fruit platters. Made a banana cake using a dinosaur cake tin & natural food colouring. Everything was dinosaur theme as picked up invites from the Warehouse etc.

There are many great shaped, novelty cake tins available on Ebay, if you are enthusiastic.

Personally I wouldn't worry about games the kids are happy to run about and it would be impossible to get them rounded up to particpate at that age.

If you have a CD player you could bring it along with music. Also I bought my DS a CD with all songs using his name for his 1st Birthday as a memoir. They are also available on Ebay.

If you want to do party bags consider, balloons, ball, bubbles, alot of mums don't like to give young ones lollies.

It is such a fun day 1st Birthday Parties.

    hey hun,

Scarletts 1st bday party was teddy bears picnic. We didnt have any family around us at the time, so invited ppl from our mothers group - needless to say enjoyed by all.

The other thing is, you can let the kids bring a special toy (not just a teddy) to play with. DD at that age was only really interested in balloons, so i packed out a room in balloons and let the kids go nuts HaHa that and i brought teddy bears picnic music was so funny to see 8 kids around 1 boppin along

Rhileys 1st we just had a bbq, cake and a lot of friends. It was simple but he really enjoyed the day, and made it all about him.
