    Default Bottled water

If we use bottled water - should we still boil it?

(I ask this because we went camping last week and I didn't want to use dam water and boil it so we bought bottles - did I waste my time boiling it?)

and yet I read in a book (about bfeeding... bottlefeeding and solids) that even if you buy bottled water it isn't sterile... and you still have to boil it ..

better to be safe than sorry? I wouldn't consider it a waste of your time

I would still boil it as no it isn't sterile, it may stilll contain bugs that bubby's tummy can't cope with. I always boiled Em's water up till she was 14 months (when I stopped sterilising) and I now use only bottled or filtered water for hers and our drinking. I wouldn't drink tap water myself so I don't give it to her and she is nearly 4.

Yeah - me too. I only went camping under protest!!
We had both in the van and a block nearby... and TV, dvd, air con, toaster, kettle, bbq, fridge, dbl bed... etc... etc... not really "camping".
SIL and nephew had the tent!

The info i have claims that bottled water is not recommended for babies or young children as it has a high salt content, low in fluoride and contains other dissolved minerals - "Eat right, don't fight - a practical guide to feeding children from birth to the preschool years"; J.O'Connell et al. Australia, 2003.

    Sorry guys, just my info.

I too have heard that tap water is infinitely better for anyone at any age as it contains more of the nutrients that our bodies need rather than having had them filtered or processed out like bottled and filtered water has!

That said ... I would prefer to give bub boiled bottled water if camping!

All this talk of water has made me feel a bit sad

I'm a country girl born and bred, but have lived in the city for 10 years now..... so I just have to put in my 2-country-cents worth : I WANT RAINWATER!!!! Nothing beats the taste of rainwater. I'm sure it's not as pure etc etc, but it just tastes better I think. It's how water should be.
My city-kid daughter laughed at me when I told her my parents had 3 ginormous rainwater tanks, and if it didn't rain we couldn't have baths every day. When I asked her "well, where do you think water comes from??" she said "the man in the truck delivers it" LOL
