    Red face milk protein allergy

Hi, I'm a new mum on site and have a problem with my 5 month old son, he's suffering from cows milk protein allergy, and has just started on soy formula, the pediatrician said this may not help and he may become allergic to soy protein, does anyone know what formula comes next?, the doc said there's one on script, does anyone else have to buy there formula on script?

Hi! My now four year old has milk protein allergy that was picked up at about 5 months when we tried giving him yoghurt......hives all over his body!! Not very pleasant and a bit scary for first timer mum like me. Anyway, on the advise of our peadeatrician, we went straight to script formula. So Tom's been on Neocate ever since them. (He still has 2 cups a day but it's Neocate Advance). Apparently this formula is used in hospitals as a complete food for kids who are unable to digest anything else.

The great thing about it that it's on the PBS so it's only about $30 for 8 tins. Worth nearly $400 I think.

To be eligible to get Neocate, your child has to be allergic to both milk and soy products.

Tom seems to be growing out of his allergy, but we carry a epipen with us just in case he ever has an anaphalatic reaction and his breathing is effected.

PM if you'd like to chat about the allergy business.

    Hope this helps!!!

my DS has a milk protein allergy, we never tried him on soy because it is not recommended for baby boys under 6months, he is on prescription formula, Pepti Junior and has been since 3 months old. hes now 19months. (it turned out he is ok with soy now though)

Thanks for your reply, I'll be ringing the pediatrician on monday first thing, we've had noah on soy for only a couple of days but his neck and chin have become worse, completely covered in a rash, and i'm concerned about his breathing too, seems a bit wheezy.

    Hi,

My DS Oscar was eventually diagnosed with cows milk protein (CMP)allergy at around 6 weeks...he had a very severe reaction to the CMP he was getting through my breast milk...he was covered in a rash, sticky eyes, blood in his nappy etc..I ended up living on a milk free diet for 2.5 yrs whilst I breast fed him!
We were also given a script for Neocate (or the UK version) but Oscar wouldn't take it...the paed prescribed this as he was concerned about the soy allergy developing.
He is now 5 yrs and has completely grown out of it..
    Good luck!

I have just found out my 8 month old has cows milk protein allergy and the Dr just gave us a script for Pepti Junior. He seemed to think that most kids with CMP allergy are also allergic to Soy so it wasn't worth even trying.

It actually works out cheaper than normal formula which was a huge shock. $30 for 8 tins!! (the tins are a bit smaller than normal formula tins)

    Goodluck

My DS aged 2.5yrs is allergic to cows milk protein and intolerant to Soy so we have him on Pepti Junior. Other than the pain of still mixing formula which I didnt think I would have to as I breastfed him till he was around 21mths its going fine. We cant even give him cheese, yoghurts etc without him having a reaction, hes also allergic/ana to eggs. I am praying that this baby is different...
