I can help a little bit, but not in regards to preparing for sewing. That's just not me unfortunately!

Pul is polyurethane laminate. It's a breathable, waterproof material used for the backing of some pads (usually o/n pads) to help stop leaking.

Bamboo is similar to hemp. It has fantastic absorbency and antibacterial qualities, plus it's a sustainable crop - it doesn't need much maintainence to grow.

I'm not sure where would be the best place to buy bamboo. Perhaps having a look at Nappies Covered (google) would be a good place to start. Some other ppl may be able to suggest some other sites.

Vicki, perhaps PM Phineas, she often gets bamboo in for her MCN's...not sure about PUL, but she is a source of wisdom and has made some pads too!!

try the 'Nappy Topics & Nappy Rash" forums, they have explanations there. I have been reading up on it as I too have no idea what they all mean...

    hope that helps..

Not really get everything at spotlight Vic...

if you want ill make you up a care package of 1 pad, a pattern and everything to make 1 so you know what it is all about.

Bamboo/hemp are only online, as is PUL - but spotlight does stock a fabric called "wetlook vinyl" which is practically the same. They also have a "waterresistant cotton" i use this in my day/lighter flow pads.

I use suedecloth on the top, that can be got at spotlight.

Flannel also works for all layers, you just need more, and hence becomes more bulky.

I have yet to begin purchasing anything, but I'm looking at Nappiescovered . com . au to buy stuff for my pads. I might look elsewhere too though, because that site has more childish prints, rather than "adult" ones.
