    Default Indigestion/Heartburn

    Hi,

Just wondering whether anyone knows of effective indigestion/heartburn treatments. Is taking Eno ok?

Last night I had really bad indigestion, and thought i was going to explode. Very uncomfortable.

    Thanks all.

I had sever HB with last child. Have you tried Renne??? Bit like mylanta but much more pleasant.

Nothing really helped me except sleeping with raised pillows and a glass of milk helped for a little bit.

I had it quite bad during my prg and found the Marina Mixture (I think) worked well, is a natural remedy, is made especially for pregnancy and can be bought from a chemist. I was told that you had to be careful of the aluminium in any treatments you use for this. I also found milk helped as well.

I got heartburn with both pregnancies and used the chewy QuikEze (they are a bit like Minties - not horrible and chalky). But I got gestational diabetes with both pregnancies and had to go onto an extremely low-fat diet and as soon as I did this, no more heartburn. A few non-diabetic friends tried the same diet and their heartburn stopped too. It kind of takes the fun out of being pregnant - if you can't pig-out now, when can you! But if you work out when your heartburn is worst and just cut out fat for a few hours before then (eg if it's at night, don't eat fat after lunch) and see if that helps.

    Goodluck.

Hi, I started suffering heartburn really badly when pregnant and by about the beginning of my third trimester I asked my obs about it as it was stopping me from sleeping even. He prescribed ranitidine I think it was (I think the more expensive form was something starting with Z?!) and it worked wonders. he explained that antacids and all of the other products just mask it and won't really help. He said its caused by the small ring of muscle at the top of your stomach being quite relaxed and the pressure of bub causing acid contents of stomach back up into your oesophagus. He also said it is very common and that the only way to get relief is to make the contents less acidic therefore won't need to mask the pain with antacids. I was concerned re health to bub but he said it was no problem.

I thook them for the last 2 and a half months, felt wonderful and as soon as I had my bub it was gone and didn't need them anymore. I would recommend it to anyone with very bad heartburn and have a very healthy 7 month old bub so it hasn't harmed her.

    Hi,

What I took was Andrews Antiacid tablets with most of my kids. It has a orange flavour and it has a nice taste about it. By the end of my pregnancies My Obs. put me on Zantac because it was so bad. I am now on a heartburn medication full time now because I have been diagnosed as having reflux. I also found if you have milk just before going to bed it helps as well.

I got bad reflux and heartburn when I was pregnant, so I took some rennie, and it seemed to do the trick.

I've recently been put on ranitidine due to getting severe reflux (i'm not pregnant)..I've only been taking them for a few days.

The effervescent Mylanta tablets taste WAY better than chewable tablets (at least the ones I tried) and seem pretty effective. I hope your HB goes away soon - its sooooooooooo horrible!

I found the following worked for me coke, soda water & the mylanta chew tabs.
My SIL who had it realy bad with all three of her bubs always had a bottle of coke with her as she found that it was one of the only things that worked.
