Default What can I take for a headcold while I'm pregnant?? Anything???

Does anyone know of anything I can take for a headcold while I'm pregnant? I have sore throat, headache, blocked nose, throbbing nasal sinus's, general lethargy. Basically I feel like crap. Can I take Echinacea (sp?) or is that only effective before you get sick? Can I take anything at all?? I've been taking paracetamol in the mornings just to get rid of the thumping headache. But that doesn't help with the blocked nose (which leads to dry mouth/throat/lips) and sore throat.

If it was just me, I'd put up with it, and just stay in bed and drink heaps of water (which I'm doing anyway) and eat oranges all day. But I have an energetic 4.5 year old who wants me to play with her, and Tuesdays is our "shopping day" when she gets her pocket money so I feel like I can't really break that promise.
I guess if there's nothing I can do, I can put up with being sick for a few days if I have to, but what I'm saying is that I'd rather not have to - IYKWIM.

Lemsip lemon drink worked great for me and it is safe. You can buy the sachet's just from the supermarket. Get better!

I had a head cold over christmas - so I know how you feel. You can take panadol and use the Snius spray thingys, and thats about it.

For a really nice variant on the Lemon Drink, try:

    2 teaspoons lemon juice

    2 - 3 teaspoons honey

    Pinch Nutmeg

    Pinch Cinnamon

Put all into a cup and add hot water. You may want to strain the nutmeg and cinnamon, but you don't have to. Works wonders - but be warned - it is a warming drink, so you will feel hotter after drinking it. In summer, I usual make up a fair bit of it if I have a cold, and then stick it in the fridge. You need a bit more honey if you do it that way though. 3 - 4 teaspoons should do it.

Hope this helps and that you feel better soon!

All of the above and maybe some Fess would be good to keep your nose in check.

    I love Fess!

And I use Fess little noses now for Ava when she is blocked or runny.

Fess! OK, never heard of it but I shall give it a go! Do I get it at the health food shop? Is it an edible thing or a rub-on-your-nostrils kind of thing? LOL as you can tell, I don't often venture into the health food shop...

Sorry, should have been a bit clearer.....

Fess is a salt water spray you get from the chemist. Like a sinus spray but without the medication.
