Exclamation BF every 2 hours at night....

My DS is 1.5weeks old. He feeds every 4 hrs during the day but from 6pm he will feed evry 2hrs and play or cat nap in between till 10-10:30pm and then will have another short feed at 11-11:30pm and then sleeps till 4-4:30am the next morning.

Does any other mums bubs do the same (BF or FF mums)???

    Default feeding routines

I BF my son every 3 hours from when my milk came in (yes i would wake him...but soon enough he was waking on the 3 hrly mark). I always followed a feed wake sleep cycle.....except for any feeds between 9pm and 7am. So it was a feed and straight back to bed.

Hope this helps. Your welcome to PM me.

My son fed every two hours like clockwork until he was 10 months old. Very normal! Your supply needs to be regulated and won't be for about another month. This is one reason that those feeds overnight are so vital. Babies need to be nourished 24 hours a day. Keep him close to you so you don't have to wake up too much and you won't get too sleep deprived. Make sure you're sleeping when he does in the day time too especially since you are having some other health issues right now. *hugs*

    Hi Mum 2B,
Im afraid to say that my little treasure is wanting feeding more regular during the night. Sometimes I feel that he has day and night the wrong way round!
He's able to sleep 2-4 hours during the day but by 10.30pm he's up every 1 1/2 to 2 hours wanting a feed. I'm coping with this better since I've let him sleep in his nursery, I found feeding him next to my sleeping partner very off putting and I enjoy the 'special' time we have together, having said that I am looking forward to when he can sleep for longer!!

JanetF, I was hoping you could give me some advice. My mother seems to think that my milk isn't fatty enough which explains why he's waking up so often during the night, is there any truth in this??

    Hels x

Elysha has closer feeds during the day that can vary from 1-3hour apart usually they are 2 hourly during the day - night she is usually between 2 and 5 hours apart with an average of 4 - though last night went to bed at 11 - then fed 4:00, 5.30 and 8.30

My 1 month old DD feeds every 2 and half to three hours throughout the day (I wake her if she's sleeping when she's due a feed). That way she gets 7 feeds in between 7am and 10pm and then only needs one feed in the middle of the night (about 2.30am). We've been getting her into a routine, as we've been reading the "Babywise" book and she is thriving and sleeping well.

My DD does seem to want feeds closer together in the evening though (every 2 hours or sometimes less) as this is apparently when milk production is the lowest and so is the quality. Apparently if you have a nap during the day (or several) it helps milk production, and that's why you have the best volume and quality in the morning normally.

DD also tends to catnap in the evening (around dinner time) and is sometimes difficult to settle after her last feed at around 9.30pm. I've read this is common amongst newborns and is termed "evening colic".

Good luck and I hope your little one starts letting you get some decent sleep at night!

Yep O fed every 4-5 hours while in hospital but then changed as soon as we got home. He ended up feeding every 2 hours night and day for about 3 or 4 months

    It did get easier

MJ always has & still does feed every 2-3 hours. Some nights (though rarely) she will have a 4-5 hour break. But half the time now I dont notice when she feeds at night

Up until 3 months I used to feed on demand which was about every 3 hours during the day and every 2 hours evening and into the night. Went to Tresillian due to having sleep issues and discovered that Ds was not actually hungry but I was misreading his cues. Could your baby be signalling something else? After that visit he started sleeping from 10.30pm to 7am, at 7 months he now only has 4 milk feeds a day along with 3 solid meals.

On breastfeeding newborns - I was given excellent advice which was not to express any feeds until at least 8 weeks to assist with supply adjusting. I was very fortunate to not have any issues after that.

Tresillian rocks! (well for our family it does!)

Thank you all for your advice.

DH went back to work yesterday and DS fed every 4 hrs and slept in between each feed except after his 6pm feed i let him have a play but he settle pretty much straight after. He has been the same today so im hoping that he is now getting into a routine but i guess i will see how long it lasts.

Once again thank you for all ur advice.
