Default Faint CMV positive at 12weeks

    Hello

I have just got a call from my GP this morning to say that i have received a faint CMV positive. I am quite concerned (obviously) for my foetus, but more so for my toddler. My Gp said that i have probably contracted the virus from changing Olivers Nappy, this must mean that Oliver has the virus - it that right? Does anyone know much about this. My Gp has ordered annother blood test, as he said it may be a false positive, but i would liket o know as much about it as possible.

    Hi Anna

My husband caught CMV last year while he was staying with our two year old in hospital (she didn't have it she was in with something else). I was 5 months pregnant at the time so I freaked.

CMV bounces off the immune systems of most healthy people and toddlers will not generally become sick with it. My DH actually became quite ill (3 weeks off work) because at the time he was quite run down, and the strain he caught was from the hospital so quite a "nasty" one as far as viruses go. Even so my DD never caught it from him. So don't stress about your little boy too much.

When you say you got a positive blood test - does your GP mean you have antibodies? If so then you don't need to worry either, your baby is fine. Just means you've been previously exposed to it as most people have. We had a minor panic over this as well with me being preggo at the time but after we checked my first trimester blood tests we saw I was immune so it was all good.
DS was born healthy and happy

Try not to worry, even if you haven't had previous exposure to this (unlikely) there is only a very small chance of baby being affected.
Let us know how you go.

Thanks for your comforting words. I tested positive for botht the tests i think. My Cp said that i have had CMV in the past, but the test thats current is positive too. If that makes sense. I'm finding it quite hard to find out information, so thank you for your comforting words. Just sit back and wait for the next lot of test results all is good!
