    Default sultanas

When to sultanas become acceptable to put into food? DS is 10 months old and am thinking of putting it into a rice custard combo thing

Should have added that he has 6 teeth and chews quite well........also planning to use blender on the sultanas

I think they would be ok, as long as you feel that bub is able to chew them.

My DS was eating them at about 12mths, but he had no teeth at all til 17mths so I held off giving him some things a bit longer than I would have if he had teeth earlier. I think he was sucking/gumming them a bit then swallowing them whole for quite a while too, and it never did him any harm.

I know alot of people who never give their kids sultanas, or any other dried fruit, coz they are worried about it getting stuck in their teeth. I never worried about that, I just made sure I brushed his teeth really well.
Big Brother ~ 7yrs...wishes he was 10 LOL

Baby Brother ~ way closer to 2yrs than I'd like.

    Hi LucyP

I give my 10.5 month old Sultanas as a fun snack and I also put them in a rice/curry/lentil thing I make him.

He has had no problems with them and really enjoys trying to pick them up to eat.

During ds's first visit to playgroup at around 9 months, he crawled off and grabbed a little girls sultanas. He stuffed them into his mouth and ate them all up! (Sorry little girl )

He loves them. I used to soak them for a little while in boiling water to make them juicier. They are great in couscous too, and it's really easy to make.

    No probs.

Boil the kettle. Put a handful of couscous in a bowl. Add a handful of sultanas. Pour boiling water over the top.

    Leave for 5 mins.

    Thats it!!!!!!

Make sure the couscous is covered by the water, and give it a fluff with a fork after it's done.

So easy even my hubby could make it........oh, no hang on, he can't boil the kettle.
