Does a Cold Harm Baby?

I'm 12 weeks pregnant at the moment and have caught a cold. Been sneezing, coughing and blowing my nose all day and have sore eyes. I know that a cold is a viral infection and therefore no meds can help, but just wondering if a cold will harm my baby in any way e.g. make it sick or birth defects etc?

Thanks to anyone that can shed light on this.

nope genrally a common cold won't hurt baby at all, its very common to get sick with the cold or flu when preg as our defence systems are down,

at about 10 weeks i had a TERRIBLE cold (coupled with horrendous morning sickness!). my doctor told me that i'd be fine, and it wouldn't affect the baby at all.

Both you and the baby will be fine.

One thing to be cautious about is taking anything for it: a lot of the over-the-counter medications are harmful to the baby. Make sure you ask the pharmacist and/or your GP before taking anything.
