    Default Hills Private Hospital, Sydney

Hi All, I was wondering if I could get some advice from anyone who has had their baby at the Hills Private Hospital. I had my son there and was less than impressed. Now for my 2nd, I've been to see my Ob but have yet to book into the hospital. Unfortunately my ob only delivers at the Hills. I'm thinking about either The Mater or North Shore Private, even though they are about a 30 - 40 minute drive from me. I am 12 weeks pregnant now, so do you think it is too late to be changing my mind and will I find it hard to get into see a good ob?

Not sure where in the Hills you are, but I had bubs at the Sydney Adventist Hospital. I had a wonderful experience there and it was quite quick to get to. Wouldn't recommend my obs though...I'll be finding someone new who delivers out of there next time.

Nats, thanks for the advice, however I am after an ob as I had a traumatic VB with my first son, so am most likely to have a elective c-section. Natsmummy Sans was one of the other hospitals that I was thinking of as well as the Mater. I have had two previous surgeries there and the staff and hospital was just fantastic.

    Kizzyw,

Can you please PM me with why you were not impressed with Hills Private? I'm booked into there for bubs #2 as I hated Westmead Public.

    Thx

What about Westmead Private?? mind you you probably wont be able to get in, although you could go on a waitlist.. You may need to do the ring around to find a new OB, xoxo All the best

Hi.. don't know how far away it is for you - but i was in the same predicament - went to hills years ago with my DS and didn't like it at all. This time I have booked into Hawkesbury - it's small, newish.. and I feel that being smaller and more of a country type hospital you'll get more attention - or someone might actually remember your name - i'm hoping that'll be the case anyway!! it's always quiet and never seems to be full - which is good when you need attention.. It's a private hospital.. but they do have a public clinic there (as it's the only hospital in the area).. but it books out really early.. i'm actually going to the clinic - but have seen the obstetrician every time due to being a bit higher risk.

I had my baby at Hills 6 weeks ago and LOVED it. Had DS at the SAN 2.5 years ago and hated it.

    Hi Annsam,

After much thought and discussion, we have decided to go to the hills again. Anyway just out of curiosity, do they still like you to feed in the Nursery, and did they put you straight into a private room or did you have to share?

The first two nights I had to share (that was the worst part of it and in my reasoning, if thats all Ive got to complain about it aint too bad considering the list I had after the SAN ).

You can feed in the nursery and are encouraged to just so you can talk to other mums which I actually found really helpful and enjoyable. Plus thats where you get teh best help but you dont have to. A midwife will come to your room if you need assistance and they will bring the pumping machine if you need that.

A friend of mine had a c/s there week before last and I dont think she once went to the nursery but she had b/f before so didn't need the amount of help I needed.

I loved the midwives. Most of them were pretty fantastic....... not to mention the postnatal clinic. Much better than the local ECHC IMO.

Let me know if you want any more info.

    All the best
