    Default SC Hospitals

    Hi all

We have found out that we are expecting no. 2 and are looking for the best hospital. We went to Nambour General for our first and found all the staff were great but they ran out of beds so I left earlier than I felt comfortable with. This time around we have private insurance so I am tossing up between Buderim Private and Nambour Selangor. Does anyone have any advice based on personal experience on either of these 2 hospitals and their obstetricians?

    Thanks
    Ali

I went to Nambour Selangor with my daughter and LOVED it! My DH and I had decided to move in there (and I'm sure the staff did too).

I had a private OB - Dr Ted Weaver. He is just lovely.

I wasn't too impressed with my Midwife but I spoke to my Doctor and another Midwife and I was taken off her list and didn't see her again. That's their policy. I ended up seeing the head Midwife for my stay and I loved her. Everyone was fantastic right down to the cleaner.

The food is devine. Everyone I know that stayed there agrees. Your DH can stay with you and for $10 a day (it was 2 years ago) he gets his own meals.

Each birthing suite has a tub for water births. The showers have two hand held heads so you can get the right spots. I didn't have one because I laboured too quickly and didn't have time.

There was something in the paper recently (maybe the Sunday Mail) about people travelling from Brissie to go to Selangor. If you want I can have a look and post it to you if I find it. PM me if you want it.

Then again, it may not be up to you where you go. Check with your Insurer and see if they've got agreements with both. My Insurer only had an agreement with Nambour Selangor - and I'm very happy they did.

I don't know too much about the Buderim Private but I do believe they don't do as many births. Their birth suites/rooms are on the same floor as other patients. I know that because my F-in-Law had an operation there and I walked past the rooms.

Hope this makes some kind of sense.

Hi Ali!! Great to see you back!! (And you too, Storm! )

I've heard really great things about Selangor. In fact. there was a huge write-up in the Sunday Mail about it on the weekend, saying that it was so good, women were coming from as far away as the US to have their babies there!

FWIW, I just had DS at Nambour General and found them to be beyond excellent. They've recently become an accredited Baby Friendly Hospital, meaning they need to achieve certain standards with regard to BF info & assistance, encouraging things such as skin-to-skin contact, natural births, breast feeding, etc. etc. etc. and also patient care. Although I thought they were very good when I had DD in Oct 05, I found them just incredible this time.

I stayed there for a week this time & was told I could have stayed longer if I wanted & they were flat-chat!

    Might be worth thinking about!

Congrats on bub #2 and all the best!!!

ETA: Oh! I just realised Storm also mentioned the article in the paper! I have the paper at home still if you're interested.

Thanks Mrs Miggins! I would have loved a big hug from you but I guess I'll settle for a wink.

AliA, I did find that article. I only read the first couple of paragraphs but I really think you should read it. Let me know if you want it.

I honestly think if you're looking for a Private Hospital for a wonderful birthing experience, you can't go past the Selangor.

    Here ya go then...

    Soppy enough for ya?!!

Ali, I'd say that too - if you want Private, Selangor would be the way to go. Not that I've been there myself, but everyone I know who's been there raves about it (bar none!) and before we fell PG with DD, I was looking into it & seriously considered getting private cover just to go there!

    Hey Guys

Well it's good to be back. Haven't been on line for ages. Have been back in casual work so haven't really had the time to be on the net.

Thank you so much for the advice, I really appreciate it. I might get one of you to send the article to me if that's ok. Will PM you both.

Congrats Mrs Miggins on #2. I think last time I was on line you had just announced you were pregnant. Time flies.

Congrats to you too Livy, you'll get nothing but the best care at Nambour General. I guess I just feel that given that i have private insurance i should be using it. However if I didn't think either of the other 2 hospitals were up to scratch i wouldn't have any hesitation going back to Nambour general.

    Thanks
    Ali
