Default Bub settling to sleep Q

As above, I've got a question about bubs going to sleep on their own...

My dd is a few days off nine months, she's always had to wrapped and rocked to sleep, except at night (since 5 mths). Just this last couple of weeks, she's been putting herself to sleep, for example, while in her portacot while at work with me, and also in her cot at home!

Now, while this is not essentially a bad thing, I'm wondering if it's normal - today she wouldn't let me rock her to sleep! She woke early this morning and fed at about 5.30am, we then had a little cuddle, and I popped her into her cot at about 6ish so I could quickly have a shower. I gave her 3 dummies to keep her occupied until I came out. While in the shower, I heard her throw two of them out (floating floorboards). I hurried up, worried that she was about to cry for me, and went to get her out ASAP, only to find her asleep, with a dummy in her mouth! Then at work this morning, I wrapped her as normal for her nap, and sat on our lounge to rock her to sleep, and she wouldn't settle. I thought it was because it was too noisy at that time. I left her wrapped up and with her dummy and popped her into her portacot while I did some work for less than five minutes, went back in to check on her, and she was sound asleep again! This afternoon, she fell asleep while feeding, which is not something she does often.

Anyway, is this sort of thing normal behavour for a nine month old baby! Surely she's too young to settle herself like this, or to want to do this all the time???

Hi, my little boy was the same. Around 8 months we had to stop wrapping him because he'd outgrown his favorite wrap. We had a few hassles with sleeping and lots of rocking. After a while we started leaving the room before he was asleep and he started putting himself to sleep. He's now 12 months old and has been putting himself to sleep without any dramas for over 2 months. It's a good thing!

OMG! Someone actually replied! Thank you VERY much! I guess I know in my head that it's a good thing, but in my own selfish ways, I really do enjoying cuddling her to sleep - it's the only two times a day now where I get a really nice cuddle for a decent amount of time, before she starts wriggling to get down! I just thought that the more 'baby' way of putting B to sleep would last longer, that's all. And I guess I was also worried that she wouldn't 'need' me as much anymore!

Renee i completely know where you are coming from. i suffered PND after Chloe was born so for me i was routine routine routine, self settling, controlled crying (ducks for cover), slept in her cot - now i look back and go i wish i could have just rocked her to sleep, or co slept or something...... she is only now becoming cuddly but there is no way she would let me cuddle her to sleep - she lets me know when shes tired and then we pop her in her cot wide awake 3 dummies as well lol and within 5 minutes she is soundo!!
