    Default Going nappy free?

My first response to the idea of not using nappies on baby was that it would make a stressful time even more so, but I recently read an article that made me think it might be easier in the long run...

Anyone tried it? I'd love to hear your experience....

Well if you are referring to full blown ECing with no nappy ever, then no I have never tried it...

    A. I love cloth nappies
    B. I dont mind changing/washing nappies
    C. I agree it seems like hard work
    D. I cant read my bubs signals and didnt start early enough.

I do however allow my son to go nappy free for a good part of the day when we are at home. He hates having his nappy changed at the moment so its easier for us, less struggling.

We have tiles, its easy to clean up after him, I still cant read his signs.

We live in darwin and its good nappy free weather here yr round.

I do a bit of EC. The sooner you start teh better, but thats not to say late-starters cant do it. I dont think I started until DD was around 6-7 months. Even now that she's 15months I dont do it full time, but more of a when I remember to sorta thing.

I just took about 3-4 days of her laying on a nappy to figure out her cues. There are lots of great sites taht help, but generally depending on their age you can time it to teh T. My DD goes about every 30-45min at her age now, so even if we miss a pee, say on teh floor(argh!), I can just look at teh clock and as it nears 30 or so minutes ask her, etc, and take her to teh potty.

Usually we only sit on teh potty 10-20 seconds, but if she's not ready she sometimes likes ot sit there a while. Other times she just wants to sit tehre as a novelty adn thinks its fun.

For the most part we catch 2-3 wees a day adn teh ocactional poo. It's really not that hard if you just take time out, and remember teh timing - they're pretty consistent those little ones . I think I'm just a bit lazy sometiems and preoccupied doing everything else on teh to-do list to remember to ask her! When I do ask her though, she alwasy wants to go and its usually always sucessful.

Feel free to PM me if you want :P

We started ECing when dd2 was born. I could get her poo signal no worries, but he wee signal I just couldn't get properly.
I then petered off doing it and really wish I hadn't now.

Having said that, we have always had nappy free time. Dd2 spends most of the day nappy free, except her nap time.
Speaking of which, I've just had to clean a wee off the floor!
We have tiles/lino throughout the house, so if she wees it doesn't really matter. She's pretty regular with her poos (every 2nd day, or 3rd day at the most) so I just make sure I have a nappy on her more. Solid poo isn't that hard to get off the floor, despite how smelly it is

Someone posted this site in previous thread not long ago:
    Tribal Baby Nappy Free
Very informative and makes it sound oh so simple
If I'd read something like this then I truely believe ECing would have been successful for us.

IF we ever have another bub I will be putting my heart and soul into making EC successful.

Had serious intentions of being nappy free but this coincided with learning about modern cloth (it did take over).
Tbh I hate that my baby is in his waste.
I can't work out his signals. He is a tease atm. He will "ssss" at me and squat but nothing. He always runs to the toilet and stands up like Dad and big bro yet nothing. We have most of the day nappy free.
I bought some underwear today for him to wear. He is 18mths so its good to encourage him to go to the toilet without actually training him.

Don't expect too much. Do you have understanding of when bub eliminates? I didn't so that made it hard.
What I have been doing is taking my bub to the toilet and just asking if he needs to go. Its a lot of waiting.
We have had 2 successes since my previous posts.
We have bub nappy free most of the time. (at home and when awake)

I'm not sure on his signals either,I am hoping to learn them, I can usually tell as he is doing #2 but thats all at the moment. I know i will take some time but thats ok. I'm about to try more nappy free time when he is awake, as he loves not having his nappy on.

if the babies are older, its good to jsut let htem run around naked and 1. they might become agitated or fussy, and 2. they might actually come to you or go where they normally get their nappy changed.

Another great way is just waiting until they wee, then waiting about 20-30 minutes and asking them if they need to go. I try not to sit her on the toilet for too long, i think 15 secodns is plenty of time, and if she doesnt need to go shell usually clim bdown before then. also try before and after bathtime, naptime, and mealtime.

it does take a while of consistency to get it going... tahts my biggets challenge. when im consistent with her seh goes just fine. its me that constantly just cant be bothered

Bub is 18mths and he will lead me to the toilet. Its easier without a nappy
He likes to sit on the toilet and tonight he went and did a wee so its exciting.
