    My older brother is one.

He did a uni degree of graphic design, and courses in 3d Animation.

He worked as a graphic designer for about 3 years and hated it with passion... Reason being, he talent was being wasted on cr@p projects like signs and such... He is truely an artist, so that passion needed to be reserved for his art, and not something like that - iykwim...?

If you enjoy that kind of thing, but it isnt your lifes passion, i say go for it... As creativity being conformed hurts...

He is now a uni studying primary education!

Depends what angle you take really it can have its moments but you are limited to your own creativity if your working for someone, thats what i dont like about it (meaning thats a drawback about it) but i put the to use elsewhere, i love the fact that i can work at home and be with my kids and tie it in with my other work

Bekkyboo is right though you see alot of good talent go to waste, i am just lucky i can use mine elsewhere

You'd prob enjoy it than Beck!!

Punkbaby, my brother also has his online comic strip site, that allows him to have his creative outlet elsewhere, just the work he was in was too time consuming, and for him it was draining him emotionally too (he really is an artist!) - hence why we all told him to find a career that has nothing to do with his art, and to save that for himself and others who would appreciate it. (he is an anami -sp? - artist)

Wow thats awesome sounds like he needs to put himself out there, its hard to find talent, true talent i mean
Its hard though getting the contacts but if he gets himself noticed i am sure he could go a long way

I used to be one, years ago when they were first 'invented' LOL. You learnt on the job back in those days, but now you can go to TAFE.

I have done a few courses as well but mainly just kept up from being in the industry.

Not a graphic designer anymore but I still use the skills to do desktop publishing and photoshop images if I need to.

I enjoy it. I am fairly creative. How confining it is really depends on the job you are doing at the time. I like constructing things as well as designing the separate components, so I always enjoyed it.

the only reason I stopped doing it was because it got too common and the pay went down. Its still not too badly paid though, compared to some things, but the boom days are sadly over!!

Anyway, my point was - TAFE.

My hubby trained as a graphic designer before I met him. He's very creative but in Brisbane it is really really difficult to get a job in the trade without a lot of experience. We have a lot of colleges that provide the training but not the market to handle the graduates .

He runs his own business now so it doesn't matter and he enjoyed the training and still uses some of the skills today so it's all good
