Default Embryo transfer and BAD cramping

Hi! I have just failed my second FET. My first FET resulted in an ectopic pregnancy.

Both transfers went smoothly, as far as the catheter going in easily, but afterwards, both times, I had severe cramping for the rest of the day.

Is this normal? I read somewhere that uterine spasms can increase the risk of an ectopic- could this be what is happening? I noticed some ladies at the clinic for their transfers (but a different Dr) get given valium... could this maybe help?

Just wondering if it's worth bring up with my FS before I do my next cycle?

Thanks so much in advance for any help or advice!

leeamber - I haven't had the cramping so can't comment on that, but I would recemmend talking to your FS about it before next time. It may be nothing to worry about, but you would rather know than not, right?

littlefreckle, I hope it is all good. I had sore boobs and thought that it was because of the pessaries or the pregnyl shot I had but it had turned out to be a bub so it is your first sign as well.

I had mild cramping the afternoon and next day with all of my transfers 9 to be exact and out of the 9 i had 2 pregnancies and still had the cramping no more and no less then when i didn't get a pregnancy.
You should however consult your FS if it is worse then AF pains. Apparently your uterus can contract afterwards because it has been interferred with and that is normal.

Leeamber- I havn't experienced the cramping that you mentioned.
My first ICSI/IVF cycle also resulted as a ectopic pregnency. How cruel it all seems sometimes. I'm very sorry for your loss.
I am going through the QFG clinic in Brisbane and my FS recommends valium and we also have Brandy available to relax us.
The first cycle I'd actually had 4 valium and a brandy before I'd left the building. Somehow this seemed to hype me up and I was unable to sleep for the seven hour trip home.
On returning for a FET cycle in February I had 2 valium and a brandy and just couldn't control myself. I remember sitting on a brick wall out the front of QGF laughing my *** off while my husband retrieved the car. I did notice delivery drivers, patients around me but just coudn't stop laughing ! This all stopped when I got into the car and I went from a laughing idiot into a babling mess of tears. [My poor darling husband]. I did manage to sleep nearly all the way home. I look back now and have a laugh about it. I do wonder what the the poor bystanders thought? In short I am greatful that these things are available to me.
Wishing you all the best on your journey!
