    Default Persistent Occiput Posterior Position

I had never heard of this before I gave birth. It was pretty much the cause of my horrid birth.

Has anyone else been through a "Persistent Occiput Posterior Position" birth?

Hmm, not sure what it is. I know what posterior is - DS was posterior... horrid horrid back pain, but not sure on the occiput term!

I had a ROP... he turned about half an hour before birth - thank the angels. The back pain was horrid, and the midwife was telling me it didn't hurt as much as I was making out as my contractions were only "mild" but I'll tell you, they didn't get hurtier, just lasted longer as the time went on, it was ALL IN MY BACK!! GRRRRR>

I've also been through a POP birth.. but the other way I was the one inflicting horrid pain on my mother, sadly.

Is there any difference between posterior and persistent posterior?

persistant is spine to spine.. no budging.
right occiput posterior (which Cobes was) is when they're mainly to the right and left occiput is to the left, obviously...

DS was Left Occiput Posterior. He was spine to spine for some of my labour because he turned 270 degrees the long way round instead of the 90 degrees he needed to do ...typical.

He was still ROP as he descended, hence the 2 1/4 hour second stage and the 36-48 hr labour before it.

I have an android pelvis, he needed to be posterior to fit through. I hope it doesnt happen with bub #2

Does Persistent Posterior mean they actually crown still in the posterior position. Thats how I presented for my poor dear mother. She had a massive episiotomy and no drugs. I love her!!

Yes, well thats how my DD crowned. And was then turned with just her head out

I was told that less than 10% of posterior babies are actually able to be birthed vaginally.

    And for your mum!
