Default Safe and Sound Explorer booster seat

Does anyone have one? Are you happy with it?

I was told that it is basically the same as the Safe and Sound Maxirider (same base etc) but just doesnt have the cup holder or arm rests and the fabric isnt as plush.

    Just after opinions..........

i'm pretty sure the explorer has a lower max weight for the child, from memory the explorer only goes up to 26kgs and the maxi rider goes up to 36kgs or there abouts, they do look very similar with a few differences

    Hey Gizmo, thanks for replying!

I thought that it might be the weight max but just went to the Britax website and both seats are rated 8-26kg

Isn't it just so confusing with all the different types of booster on the market.

yeah they both go to 26kg

the only difference i can really see is the sides are just a little higher on the maxi, but that said they do both say they have side protection,

i did notice that the maxi has written on it that it is the highes backed on the market, but they may have just not up dated that since they brought out the explorer ???

i really dont know your guess would be as good as mine

i have a maxi rider ii and love it, but if the explorer is a little cheaper i dont see anything that would stop me from getting that one, but it was not out when i bought my maxi rider ii

whoops I was thinking of another that goes up to 36

umm the only difference I can see is the arm rests, the cup holders, and the anti submarine clip, the maxi rider has all them and ther other doesn't, will be interested to see which one is better really

    hi Ladies

I have an explorer seat for my 5 year old. The only difference between an explorer and the maxi is the drink holders and arm rests. The both have the tether strap for the h harness to attach to. They both have anti submarine clips and they both tether to the car. The explorer isnt as wide as the maxi but is almost the same height wise for a little less on cost. I brought my explorer from Babyco (exclusive) for $297.00 whereas the maxi retails for $359.00. If you are worried about spqace I would go the explorer over the maxi. The fabric is more comfy on the explorer too.

Hope this helps you in your quest.

We have a MRII in DH's car and the anti sub clip is just hidden under the cover since it's not needed while we are still using the 5 point harness.

I have been told that the Explorer is narrower than the MRII which makes me think that it isn't the same moulding and therefore I wouldn't automatically assume that it's as safe as the MRII. I haven't seen an Explorer myself and haven't done any research into it. Probably the best place to contact would be Britax themselves and ask them what the differences are.

For the $60 odd difference, I would go the MRII but you can usually get them cheaper than the rrp. An added bonus is that when you use them for an older child, they are different to a 'babyseat' because they have the arm rests and cupholders

Just to give you a follow up.

Phoned Britax and basically they advised that from their safety tests and requirements, the Explorer and Maxi Rider II are on par.

    The differences basically are:

The MRII has the cup holders and arm rests.

Both seats are the same height. However, the Explorer has 4 slots for the seat belts to go through and the MRII has 3.

The MRII. is slightly wider widthways than the Explorer.

The explorer has slightly longer side wings around the head/shoulder area.

Both seats tether to the car and both seats can use the Protecta harness which tethers to the seat.

Both seats have a compartment underneath for the harness to store in when the seat is being used in booster mode.

Both seats have the anti-submarine clip.

Just thought I would let you all know what Britax had said.

I laybyed the Explorer on the weekend. I liked it over the maxi as the side wings were a bit wider around the neck/head as someone stated. And with miss being on the small side I thought it a better option. Plus she dont need no fancy cup holders!!

Tera - you were right . .they are a great buy!!
