Danni you're not alone. I am in the same boat alothough I am only 6 weeks pregnant. I have found that everytime I wash my hair, brush my hair or tie it up that clumpfuls of hair come out. Its quite scary as I don't have that much hair to begin with. I usually lose a lot of hair but not at this rate. I'm going to go bald by the time I give mu bub arrives if this doesn't stop soon.

Any mummies out there that have been in this position before? I have heard of hair loss after birth but haven't heard much about hair loss during pregnancy.

Thanks hoping Im so glad there is some one else out there that has it. I wonder if it will stop, i noticed on the thread there is a shampoo you can use to stop the hair loss! I just hope its not too expensive. Although at this point i might be willing to spend the dollars to save my locks....

I was the other way around.

I gained hair during my pregnancy and now 4 months on.....I'm losing it big time.

I have bald spots around my face hairline and it just comes out in chunks...in the shower, in my hairbursh, in my hands, in the car, around the house. It's terrible.

    BUT it is normal.....unfortunately

I told my hairdresser Im pregnant yesterday and he said he thought my hair looked thinner!
Apparently it can thin out and go dryer in pregnancy.

    Default Hair loss

I actually found it was the opposite with me during pregnancy (all 4). My hair usually falls out everywhere, clogging drains and the vacuum cleaner, but during pregnancy it stops falling out. It thickens up beautifully, but soon after the birth it starts falling out again. I was told that this was very common.

During pregnancy your hair should get thicker and have more luster and your nails stronger...If this isn't the case you could have an underlying problem. Get a thyroid test as this can cause dryness of hair and skin as well as a tired feeling. I developed hypothyroidism after my first child and now more severly in my second pregnancy...if that isn't the problem just eat more proteins (eggs, beans) and iron (liver, red meat, green leafy vegies). Your body might be giving all the nutrients to bub. Hope that heaps.

During pregnancy hair goes into a resting phase and just continues to grow without much loss. After pregnancy you will then start shedding hair. Apparently it is unusual and abnormal for women to loose hair during pregnancy... So if you are you need to consult a physician as it could be signs of a deficiency caused by the pregnancy.

The exact same thing happened to me!!! And then it stopped after I had my babies. I thought it was the other way around.

Although I'm not pregnant now, my hair seems to be coming out in chunks. So annoying - I wish I lost hair from somewhere not as important like my armits or fanny!!!

Im in the same boat, hence why I had to cut my hair off 2 weeks ago into a pixie cut. It was falling out in clumps it was that bad I had to start again and hopefully it will grow back stronger.
My last pregnancy, my hair grew so long and thick, so this time it was a total shock. I was told by my middie that it is OK, Im taking my vitamins etc. If it does continue after the pregnancy, then I have to have another checkup.
