    Default Gym Membership Question

My DH and I really want to join a gym.

We are on the Northside of Brisbane and are wanting to join really just to get fit and healthy and help adjust our lifestyle to suit this fit and healthy idea. (In other words, I am not doing this to lose weight as such, but to become fitter and healthier as I am not really either of these two at them moment - same with DH). My Dad has just be diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes which is mainly due to lack of trying to ensure he stayed fit and healthy and I just want to make sure we don't fall into that trap of being so busy with things like work and so on that we forget to take care of ourselves!

Can anyone tell me what sort of experience they have had with somewhere like Goodlife? Or any other gym?

And what sort of costs do you usually pay per fortnight? Plus what joining fee?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm with Inshape (in Sydney though)

We pay $122 a month for a couple . Its worth asking a gym if they do couple membership. It was $99 each joining fee too.

Will you be happy just doing gym work? If not check out their classes. Are they on at a time suitable for you.

If you need childcare check out the facilities and availability.

Do they offer a free personal trainer as induction?

Hope this helps and well done for taking that step. I joined one in January and its changed my life.

I was a member of Goodlife at Carseldine when i lived in Brissy. The all womens section is fantastic, the larger gym is unbelievable and the childcare is great. They hav childcare 6 days a week and extra on Mon and Wed night.

They had lots of social stuff, cool classes, boot camps, bbqs etc, and gret parties at the end of the year. There personal trainers are great!!!

I joined for fitness not to lose weight and loved it.

Im also a member at Fernwood and would recommend it highly however if you and DH want to join the same one then it wont help you!
It is great especially for ladies (of any shape or size) who are just starting out and are a bit shy to be in the mainstream gyms.
The basic membership is about $35 a fortnight. I used to see this as expensive but allot of bigger gyms (zest/fitness first) are very similar.
Fernwood is very clean and focus on interaction with members, i.e you are not just a membership number walking in and out the door to them.

    Thanks for your advice ladies.
I ended up going with Goodlife as DH was really keen to join as well.

We both joined up and had our fitness assessments yesterday and got given a circuit to do, and I also went back today.

Man - my thighs and butt especially are really hurting!! But these are the areas I want to work on so I guess that is a good thing right??

I am really happy we finally stopped talking about and did it - and for us making this financial commitment means it will ensure we actually do go.

But tell me - when does it stop hurting???
