    Default GD test

    hey all, im booked for my gestational diabetes test ( apparently rotine ) does anyone know if u are supposed to fast . mines early in the morning which isnt to bad i just was worried about missing meals

    They should have told you when you booked your test. If it is the one hour test, then no, you eat normally. I think you fast for the three hour one, but I'm not sure.

    If in doubt, ring the lab where you are having your test.

    There are 2 tests you could have - the GCT (control) which you don't fast or the GTT which is a complete test.

    Ask which one you are booked to have - my OB tested me for the control test because if you pass that you don't need to do the GTT which means you fast and have 2 blood tests.

    I had to do both because I had a high reading for the GCT but some docs prefer to just test the GTT and do the complete testing.

    Best to ask which one you are having! They should tell you whether you have to fast or not.

    thanks for that everyone ..its a great help. im a first timerso some of these tests and things confuse me
