    Default Occassional Formula Feeds

    Just after some advice please....

DH and I have Gold Class tickets that we need to use by January but so far haven't had a chance because I am breastfeeding and dont want to leave him ..

    * Can I give him formula for just that night?? He drinks water out of a bottle, so the bottle part shouldn't be a problem...
    * How much should he have??
    * Which formula do I buy?? I think he may be lactose intolerate???
    * Missing one feed every now and then, will that effect my milk supply if I dont express??

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

    Hi,

If it is for one night only, could you express a feed beforehand. It would probably a good idea to do that anyway so that you do not impact your supply. I am not sure that missing one everynow and again though will impact your supply - not once it is established anyway. If you are like me though, and do not express you may have very engorged and/or leaky breasts by morning.

If you are using formula, they do sell stickpacks - a box of 6 or 12 portions rather than the whole tin. S26 do stickpacks I know.

If you buy the stickpacks according to the babies age, then one sachet will be one feed and the make up instructions are there. A rough guide of volume would be 120 mls for a less than 3 month baby, offer 240 mls for a baby older than 3 months. (i will not go into the ml per kilo per day for one feed - hardly relevant)

I can not help on the lactose intolerance. I would assume that you can get stickpacks of appropriate formula but I would ask at my pharmacy.

Maria's advice is excellent. For just one feed I would express too.

Karicare and S26 sell the single sachets, about $1 each I think. Good for the odd feed.

    Enjoy the movies!

The other issue you may need to consider is that if you leave the formula - your bubs may not take it very easily. therefore your minder may have a grumpy bubs.
