Default My little boy hurt himself...

This afternoon, I brought DS home and we went to get the mail. We have 4 cobblestone steps up to the mailbox and more cobblestones along the bottom.

DS and I went up the stairs and as I was pointing out something to him, he lost his footing and fell over backwards down the stairs (head first )

I spun around and he was just landing on the bottom and his head hit the paving.

He burst into tears and I raced him inside to check him out only to find blood all over his shirt and the back of his head. He was still crying and saying his head hurt and when I got a wet cloth and cleaned his head up, saw that the cut was quite small (just bleeding a lot).

He is good now. No bump at all, the bleeding has stopped and he is his normal happy self (although I have kept him up later just to keep an eye on him).

Poor little darling. It's so terrifying when your little one hurts themselves

Oh it happens so quick doesn't it? But it also seems to happen in slow motion when you're watching it I reckon.

I'm glad he's okay and I agree, it is terrifying when they hurt themselves. My 2 year old choked on a 5c coin yesterday and I just panicked and kept hitting him on the back and he ended up regurgitating it into the kitchen sink. Weird thing is, he never puts anything in his mouth and his older brother has had a number of dreams that his little brother has swallowed something. He was in the bedroom with him when he did it and the look of terror and horror on his face because his brother HAD swallowed something is etched in my mind.

Sorry, hijack. Just wanted to let you know I understand how YOU feel!!

aaaw RM, poor little Ryno I am glad that al is well and that it was a small cut. Head injuries are so scary though. I actually had a nightmare a few weeks about E falling on her head and having concussion. Luckily kids are pretty tough and dont fall as hard as us old cronies (oops there goes a hip).. erm, I mean adults do. I hope you both feel better now

Poor little fellow!!! I hope both you and him have recovered. It is funny how we love our children so much that when they are hurt - we are hurt, when they feel sick - we feel sick. It is an entirely different and completely unconditional love that I have never felt before.

    Oh no, poor little ryan.

I agree kids bounce back pretty well. Jake has had quite a few falls that have left bumps and bruises. Nothing some cuddles couldnt fix though.

Its the poor mums that are still shaken up for hours afterwards.

For me, there is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing my little man cry

i feel bad because i dont even worry too much these days when DS hurts himself. i do care but i dont get upset as i used to. its not that i am heartless its just that he hurts himself (Sometimes deliberatly) so often that i know how resiliant he is and that most of the time the screaming and crying is just noise. does that make me a bad mother?

sorry to hear about your DS, sounds like a bad fall. glad to hear it wasnt serious.
