I might be wrong here, as i'm not 100% sure what you mean by a side car but we have the cot against our bed, with the drop side off completely. The cot is in the corner of the room and then our bed is pushed up against it - they are both the same height so it works out great.

TBH though, Elouise sleeps in between us She hasn't slept in the cot yet, but when it's time to move her out of our bed, it will be a lot easier, as it's right there next to us still, and she is already used to it, as it's been this way for 4 months or so now

Is this what you mean, Dani?

what mum2elouise has described is exactly what I've got
With my old bed, the cot mattress was lower than my mattress, so I went to a foam place and had some foam cut to put underneath the cot matress. And now I have a new bed, the foam isn't needed - but I have it on the floor in the hallway, with a sheet and blankets on it, as his day-nap bed.

I sleep in Damiens room in a single bed and Damien takes up all the room so i thought it would be easier if i put the cot next to the bed
