Have you ever thrown a Surprise B'day party?

My hubby's b'day is next month - not a major b'day, but his last opportunity to have a good drinkie-poo before our first child is born. I'm thinking of having a surprise b'day party for him, but I'm not really too sure...

Just wondering if anyone else has thrown a surprise party for someone else? How did it all go? Did it go to plan? Did you have it at home or elsewhere?

I had a surprise birthday party for my DH's 30th.

I had it in a restaurant and I nearly pulled it off as a surprised until we pulled into the carpark and my DH started recognising his friend's cars!!!

so yeah..... might want to keep that in mind if you plan one!!

I was thrown one for my 21st..... because we got married on my 21st, I thought that would be it, but when we got back from our honeymoon, my parents gave me a surprise party.....

I was soooooo disappointed that I didn't get to go out to that resturant I was so looking forward to going to....

But it was great... we had it at my mums house, but everyone decided to park around her lawn, so it was only a surprise when we pulled up...

So get everyone to park around the corner...hire a kareoke machine and you will be right!!

We threw one for my Mums 40th, at a hall. We pulled it off, and we got her there by telling her that her bestie was working at a function on at the hall (explains the cars) and we had to pick her up before dinner

She was so suprised it was great!!!
I also suprised Mum by flying home from Darwin for her b'day PLUS I organised her to have the following week off with me

....

Pink Lady Hi there, i had a surprise party for my DH's 35th birthday , just last year. What i did was, organised it all, bought food and hid the food, we had an old fridge that was connected up in the shed, or you could hide some food at your friends or parents place??? Then i told him that mum had asked us over for dinner that night, so we went for dinner, i had handed out invitations weeks before, left the door open for friends and family, they all came in while we were at mums hvaing dinner. Then i said i was tired and maybe we could go home now.... then we walked in and we had a huge amount of people that had put streamers up and balloons and we walked in to a dark room and everyone jumped out, it was a fantastic night, my husband had no idea of it all. It worked out really well. I say go for it, its so much fun. Goodluck xxxx

I organised a surprise 40th for my Mum. My Dad's job was to take her away for the weekend (yep, he had the tough part!!)
I organised accommodation for everyone attending, the entertainment, the food

, basically, I'm a fantastic daughter!

My Dad took her to the Wool Museum in Geelong to kill a bit of time on the way home. Mum was bored to death, with Dad going into detail at every exhibit!!
We owned a pub at the time so when they arrived home (the pub), Mum took one look at all of the cars and thought, "Oh my goodness...look how many customers we've got for lunch. I better get in there and help!"
As she was running to the bistro door she turned to Dad and snapped, "You had us wandering around that stupid wool museum for all that time and look what was going on here!"
She then walked in and found all of her friends and family - the photo I have of her realising that everyone was there for her is priceless...it looks like she's going to faint!
It was great day.
Don't forget that if people are going to R.S.V.P to get them to send it to a close friend's address, otherwise you might find the birthday boy opening 'secret birthday party business' mail!

One of our friends threw a surprise party for my partner before we were together, so she sent a text message to everyone letting them know about it - then realised she'd sent the message to him as well. So to fix it she sent another text message saying "don't read the last text I sent"

too late.

Sorry, that's my only experience with surprise parties

We threw a surprise for my mum's 51st birthday. It was hillarious as dad never organised anything for her 50th and she very dissapointed and had to organise her own 50th. So on her 51st birthday dad said to me he's organising a surprise party for her. I was in charge of picking her up from work.

Well on the day of her birthday 23rd December dad disabled her car and mum came in very upset so dad offered to drive her to work and said he will get RAC to look at the car. (my dad worked for home). I organised to finish work at 1pm and took a bus to their house and dad picked me up. We blew up balloons, put streamers up and things like that. About 4pm DH and his friend came over and continued to help dad organise the rest of the house.

We arranged for everyone to arrive about 6:30pm and park at different neighbours house. The only car that was at her house was DH car so it looked as if we were coming over for dinner. Mum called at 4:45pm saying that she was ready to be picked up from work and said oh I haven't bought DH's christmas present can we go late night shopping.

So mum and I spent a couple of hours shopping and I said as I was leaving the shops that I better call dad as he was organising dinner and had to cook the rice. We got home and she said oh it smells like dad got Sabrina (our family friends who are caterers) to cook some food for us the house was in total blackness and dad met us at door saying oh we have had another power blackout (they have been having power blackouts every day for about 1/2 an hour a day at this satge). She walked in the door and everyone screamed "Surprise" and sang Happy Birthday. We have a brilliant shot of my mum look on her face when the lights came on.

She had a ball though. But later on she said she suspected something was going on especially when her two best friends who normally call to wish her happy birthday first thing in the morning of her birthday every year never did so make sure if someone normally calls him on his birthday does it otherwise he might guess something was amiss

We put on a surprise party for my FIL's 50th last year, at our place. It was so much to organise, esp with a 10week old bub! But it went really well, and my FIL didn't have a clue - even after walking past all his friends cars parked outside our house!! LOLWe invited about 15 people, and 30 or so turned up, so luckily we didn't run out of anything.We got other rellies to bring stuff too, so it wasn't too much for us financially, we ended up with so much food and booze left over it wasn't funny!

No i have never done this before, but i am in the process of trying to organise one for my hubbys bday in March...

I am trying to get all the contact details at the moment for his friends that live in Canberra, it is so fun becasue i feel really sneaky!!!!

Not sure about other details yet about where and all of that. Hmmm... this is a great way to spend the "Too much time on my hands!"
