    Default only breast milk

my 5,1/2 mth baby has been exclusively breast feed, i am back at work and find it tiring expressing and rushing back home to breast feed. He will take breast milk from the bottle but refuses all formula milk.
I have tried spoon feeding him the formula milk but he hates it. I have tried Farex once and he is not too keen either.
I would like to wean him off the breast but how can i if he does not like any of the formula milk???

    HELP!

    Dear Heaven,

You must be exhausted! Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do to MAKE a baby feed when they don’t want to.

You can try to offer formula from a small cup or spout cup instead of a bottle. This way, you are making a distinction between the two milks, and not trying to ‘pretend’ that formula and breastmilk are the same - and he is therefore not expecting they should taste the same. As he is getting a bit older and more aware of what people around him are doing, he may take to the cup if he sees others drinking from similar cups. On the other hand, it can be difficult to encourage bubs to drink as much from a cup as they will from a bottle.

The other thing you could try would be to add a small amount of made up formula to your EBM in the bottle. You would then gradually increase the formula and decrease the EBM as he became more accepting of the taste. It’s not an instant solution, but may be more achievable.

It’s certainly understandable why you are finding your current expressing and breastfeeding routine to be overwhelming – if you are willing and able though, you might be able to work towards a new routine of formula during the day, and a breastfeed before and after work.
