Default Some info for hypothyroidism sufferers

I decided to look around a bit for some info on hypothyroidism (overactive) and was concerned mainly about weightloss. I have been carrying around an extra 5-10kgs that I would rather have off me and was looking to see what I could do considering the thyroid is kaput.

I found this and I hope it may be useful for you...

It seems likely that hypothyroidism, with its penchant for slowing down everything else in our systems right down to our cells, slows down our body's ability to process carbohydrates and our cell's ability to absorb blood sugar. Hence, the carbohydrates we could eat pre-thyroid problems now are too much for our systems to handle. So excess carbohydrates equals excess insulin equals excess weight. Plus, the fun side effects of blood sugar swings (tiredness, dizziness, fatigue, exhaustion, hunger, etc.) that we may be mistaking as thyroid symptoms and our doctors say can't possibly be.
I got this from http://thyroid.about.com/cs/dietweig...ngweight_2.htm if you need any more info....

Does anyone else have any suggestions or advice??

Actually hypothyroidism is an UNDERACTIVE thyroid glad....hyperthroidism is overactive.

The hubby has an underactive thyroid gland, and the Dr has put him on thyroxine, which is a thyroid hormone. He's carrying a bit of extra weight, but now that he's on the thyroxine he's starting to lose a bit because he's now got more energy to get on the treadmill & work it off.

I have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) which is the one you mention above (not over active).

It has taken me two years to get it properly under control and I'm pleased to say that I have just recently had my very best reading. The thyroxine is now keeping it to a normal level - this stuff is critical.

Which you are finding the right levels though, yes, it is important to stick to easily digested product - lots of fibre and brown rice but much much more fresh fruit and veges, cut down on large amounts of meat etc.

Hypothyroidism slows the metabolism, you simply can't work off the excess carbs (let alone have the energy to do it). It will always be that little bit more of a struggle to keep your weight under control - I'm pretty fanatical about it, an underactive thyroid makes it easy to lose control and for your weight gain to spiral.
