Default Koby Dane's Water Birth 30.01.07

I was looking forward to a water birth throughout my pregnancy, but also realised circumstances may have prevented us from doing so in the end. With my due date been & gone i was booked in for induction on the 30.01.07. Thought my chances were fading.

A tape was inserted at 7.30am releasing the hormones slowly. I was sent to maternity where i began to feel mild contractions by mid morning, getting stronger thru the afternoon. By 5pm, contractions had picked up, stronger & more frequent.

At 7.30pm my wonderful midwife Maria did an internal to find me 4cm. She asked if i wanted my waters broken or see how things go. If my waters were broken & meconium found, i wouldn't have been able to use the birth centre or pool. I decided to risk it, she broke my waters, they were all clear...bubs doing well.

I went straight into the shower in the birth centre, whilst Maria filled the bath. Contractions became really fast & full on after waters broken. I got into the bath with DH about 8.15pm and our beautiful baby boy made his way into the water at 8.58pm. I could see his head between my legs and waited for the next contraction when he floated out into the water, i lifted him out from the water and onto my chest with my wonderful DH cradling us from behind.

It was amazing, intense and absolutely beautiful. I looked up to my mum who was filming with the video camera and said "I did it, I did it..." over and over again.

I had no pain relief and was home again 5 hours after the birth.

    Koby Dane born 30.01.07 @ 8.58pm.

That is such a beautiful story. Was it much different to your first birth? I hope my 2nd is like that! Which birthing centre did you give birth at?? Noticed you were in QLD, so just wondering where it was.

And also Congratulations and welcome to the world Koby Dane!

Thank you. My DD's birth was long, i prelaboured for a few days, i did use the birth centre and the bath but i ended up in the delivery suite as i was exhausted and wanted an epi-dural. In the end, it was too late for an epi and i didn't get one, DD was born 1 hour after moving from the birth centre.... Should have stayed there!

Birth Centre was at Gold Coast Hospital. The birth centre i went to for DD was in sydney.

Thanks Jo, so far so good with Jenna. She gets a little jelous when DH spends time with Koby, but hopefully it will pass. She's been really good with him, giving him lots of kisses and helping Mum out!
