Mercy V's Royal Womens.Melbourne.

I am smack bang between the two hospitals & had my DD at the Royal women s & they were great ,the Mercy was in the process of mooving while i was going through my care at the Royal.,well now we have number two on the way & the Mercy looks so impressive from the outside lol but i was wondering how the care is on the inside.
Any info would be greatly appreciated .

I assume as a public patient?

Try the Mercy then - got better parking! (you can use the train station carpark after hours)

Meant to add - in my experience they have been really nice so far (I had my DD there and also had a curette done there) and all the staff were super nice to me

I'm booked in to the Women's.......I'll let you know next week how the hospital stay was So far the antenatal care had been fantastic.

A friend had her baby at the Mercy recently and she said it was lovely. I think they have had a renovation in the last few years.

Maybe do a hospital tour of both before you make your decision

I have to say that Royal Women's was the worst place I have ever been to and I would need to be unconscious to ever go through those doors again.

In my opinion (having had my son at the Mercy when it was in east Melbourne), and having been to the Royal Womens as a doula.....they are both really intervention-happy. However, although I ended up with an emergency caesarean at the Mercy (after labouring in the birth centre), my impression is that the Royal Womens is more up-tight. In my experience, they are really keen on time restrictions, etc at the Royal Womens. Having said that, I think anywhere you go, it's really important to have a birth plan that states your wishes and also where you will not agree to their policy (such as "no time restrictions, please", "no CTG monitoring please", for instance, etc).

well here we are a few weeks down the track ..... Iwe are going through the Mercy & i must say so far i am a little diappointed with my care , i am now at 23 weeks & are still waiting for my blood test reasults from week 16 , after asking about them for my last 2 visits they are still not in my file , the results from my U/S were not in my file either, i have been getting a few dizzy spells & the explinantion was " well you have alot more blood travelling around your body & that could be the cause" ,no further explinatin.
I am finding the waiting times alot longer here than at the womens where i had DD ,but that is to be expected in the public system , or any system where the docs, midwives& Ob's might need to rush off.
Upside ,it is a very nice hospital & has a nice feeling about it , so hopefully when this bubs comes along ,i will find the care fantastic.

That's disappointing to hear. What unit are you under? I had my son at the Mercy (and I had a complicated pregnancy so practically lived there for the entire nine months). I was under the Plenty team and the whole experience was fabulous.

The only thing that frustrated me was waiting FOREVER when having appointments !! God I hate that waiting room..

tooo funny that you found this thread tonight !!!!
I had an appointment today & it was wonderful the midwife i saw was nothing less that brilliant , she found all my bloods & my U/s info & explained everything ,so nothing but rave reviews for today , going again in 4 weeks for my gloucose test ( yep the long one,as i had a high reading while i was pregnat with DD)
icugal,not sure the name of the unit , i just see the midwives every few weeks & occasionally a doc, i am having a no drama pregnancy so i am very lucky , jsut have to keep an eye on my BP as it can drop at times.
