Hi there Sharon,
I responded to you in a thread a while back now about studying and babies. I am doing the same Charles Sturt degree in Librarianship and am doing it one subject at a time as I have two preschoolers at home. I started when the youngest was 12months old.
I recieved my notes yesterday and have been doing the readings and starting on the assignment. How about you? I saw you were involved in the NLS2006, how did your seminar go?

you have to study to be a librarian![]()
Bookmum - what subject are you doing this semester? I started back in 2004 and got a bit of credit for having done my Lib. Tech. qualifications. This sem. I'm attempting to do:
INF310 Topics in Library Management
INF436 Serving Children and Youths in Public Libraries.
I'm doing a major in children's services as I'm hoping to eventually work in children's services in a public library. I am currently on maternity leave from QUT and am resigning at the end of my leave. Have just had word that I've picked up some casual work at Ipswich Library.
Will be interesting to see how I cope with child, study and casual work - plus scholarship and all the volunteer work I do.
NLS was great. My presentation was well received - think it is a topic of great interest as librarianship is majority female. I flew down and back in one day - not the most fun as I had a 5am flight!!
It's great to know a fellow student on bubhub!! I'll probably see you on the BALIS forums too!!![]()

Yep!! You need to do either a degree - Bachelor of Arts (Library and Information Studies) or similar, or do a degree and then do postgrad or masters.
Most people are mistaken thinking that all people that work in libraries are librarians. But you actually have many different levels of staffing. Library Assistants that don't need tertiary education, library assistants that have certificate level, library assistants/technicians with tafe diplomas, and librarians with the degree/postgrad/masters.

I'm a closet librarian.... (which means I have the Bachelor of Business (Information & Library Management) degree but I don't practice it.... I got out of the library field after years as a Legal Librarian and yes emevity.... Librarianship is a big thing!![]()
There are heaps of aspects to librarianship like cataloguing, archiving, research, collection management etc etc..... many people think being a librarian means you just shelve books all day![]()
oh BTW - to all you librarians and librarian-to-be... this is my favorite saying about librarians:
LIBRARIAN - THE REAL FIRST SEARCH ENGINE
