Default Going overseas with a baby?

Hi Im not sure where to post this question - but we are considering going to Thailand when our baby will be around 4 months old. Has anyone travelled overseas with a baby this young and had any problems???

We took DD1 to see her grandparents in Scotland when she was 3-4months. About a 24-hour journey, in 2 stages, each way.

3 out of 4 legs she just slept all the way - I think the humming of the plane did it, she was always a great little car and pram sleeper.

4th leg she didn't sleep at all (9 hours!) which was a bit of a nightmare, but by that stage she'd been travelling for 16 hours and was pretty over it.

Our major travelling problem was jet lag (going to Scotland in the middle of winter with only about 6 hours of sunlight a day!) which wouldn't be a big deal for your trip.

All in all, I think 4 months is a great age for baby travelling. I'd far rather do it with a 4-month-old than a 14-month-old anyway!

obviously let the airline know u hav an infant and will require a cot (they hav them on the wall), some also supply nappies, food, etc.

Make sure u get to the checkin facilities well in advance..when i traveled to UK on my own they gave me extra seats when available....they will also let u board the plane first to get settled and leave first...

as long as u speak to the airline u can take your pram with u and when u get to the boarding part they put it dow in the cargo area....

If your husband is going with u i say no worries...i nearly died flying to UK on my own...did not sleep at all...had no stop overs...so my advice would b do a stop over....

ohhh...and take a dummy...bubs ears may hurt for landing and taking off...best they suck something.... good luck

Hi, 4 months is a good time to travel. Easier if you have someone with you.

    Top tips from me -

    - Singapore Airlines are great, request a bassinette (and phone up and confirm it is requested!!) CHECK the airlines policy for flying with babies before you book. That is, some have bassinettes, some don't, different baggage allowances and also some charge high fares for babies!
    - Overnight flights are better as you have a chance of baby sleeping longer and not having to feed all the time (if they are sleeping through by then)
    - Travel with the bare minimum BUT take twice as many nappies as you'd need for teh flight (never know about delays etc) and spare clothes for you and bub. Get a little drawstring bag you can keep a couple of nappies and wipes in so you don't have to lug the whole bag to the toilets.

    HAVE A NICE TRIP!!

    Sue
