Default loss of weight and AF

    Hi,

Since I had Poppy 9 months ago I have lost a lot of weight ( now down to 45kg - normal weight usually around 55 ) and I have not had a period for 7 months - not breastfeeding anymore either and after breasfeeding I had 2 normal periods!

Has anyone else had any problems like this. Have been to Doctor and all bloodtests were clear!?

    Thanks for listening.

    Hi,
    Yep been there.
I droped a heap of weight and went down to 55kg.
That is way below what is recommended, I was told by DR that I had to put on 5 kg or my body would go more into shock.
I had lost A/F, he said if I didn't I would start to get hair on my chest and my voice would deepen.
He said due to too much weight loss my body had reduced its production of eostrogen.
I went out and bought a pie.

Yeah I have heard if you lose too much weight it effects your hormonal balance and you stop getting AF, this also happened when my sister had anorexia she didnt get AF for a year. Is your BMI healthy?

Well I'm glad that I am not the only one... I have now lost 17kgs in 10 weeks (since my DD was born) I have had so many tests and nothing has come up. The only thing different is that now I am bleeding pretty much constantly but they think it is from the Implanon in my arm so I have the choice of stop BF and they will try medication (which I don't want to stop BF as I have plenty of milk) or they take it out but it cost $180 to put in so it's very frustrating.

Yes it happened to me also - I was dieting a few years ago (though on the pill also) and AF stopped cause all the dieting threw all my hormones out. I stopped the pill but it took 6 months for it to come back

yip your weight has alot to do with your af, if you loose to much then it can have the effect on your hormones which causes you to not get af, its the same with weighing to much sometimes as well, how tall are you? 45kgs is very light, i'm 5ft 2inch's and the lowest I should be is 50kg, maybe if you gained a little bit of weight hopefully af will come back

    Hi Ladies,

Thank you for all your responses. I have managed to put on 4kg and AF has returned ( on xmas day - thank you santa! )

Still do not know why I lost all that weight - maybe from having the baby??
