Question Very painful joints following pregnancy

I am wondering if there are any other new mums out there suffering the same as me, or previous mums who might have had the same symptoms and found a remedy.

I had my baby boy 4 months ago and already I've had to have a thumb operation on both thumbs to repair torn tendons. Now I have severe pain in most of my joints, especially wrists, knuckles and knees.

I am taking a Blackmores Joint Formula but it doesn't seem to be helping much.

    Can anybody help?!!

    Many thanks,
    Sue

oh thank goodness I'm not the only one.

Not as severe as you, but yes, my joints hurt. My knuckles, wrists and ankles in particular. My baby is four and a half months old and its no better than it was before, okay well maybe slightly better but its still bad enough.

    What IS it anyway?

I had this after my first bub was born.
I remember on another board I post on someone mentioned it and quite a few other women were experiencing the same thing.
I never found out what causes it (guessing it's hormonal) but for me it finally went away when DD was about 6 months old.
I don't seem to have it yet after my second baby, here's hoping it stays away!

I had PSD throughout my pregnancy so all my joints (particularly pelvis) really hurt. But now 10 weeks on I'm finding that the bones in my feet, my ankles and my knees really ache.

Perhaps it has something to do with the hormones or the extra weight we carried???

I'd be interested to hear if there is any explanation out there.....

If you can afford it, it is defitely worth a trip to see a physio.... I had a bit of pain in my knee joint that started off just a little bit niggling and moved to being a big issue...also my lower back and feet were starting to feel it, but I just put that down to the knee joint pain.

I FINALLY went and saw a physio last week, and it has all but disappeared....my 'knee pain' was actually a weakened SCJ (something in base of spine which I may have always been carrying, but was possibly exacerbated by child birth/bad posture/carrying extra weight) which lead to a weakened gluteal muscle which made another muscle (beside the hamstring) overwork and rub over the knee joint.

I've had two sessions (with just one more to go so not too exxy) and he pokes and prods for a bit and has given me a series of exercises to stretch and strenthen, and I haven't had any pain (including back and feet) in 4 days....definitely worth it
