    Default Gastro with Fever?

My DD came down with Gastro on Wed night, Yesterday, she just hung around all day, but seemed to be fine, just didnt eat anyting other then dry bikkies, at night she had some steak. Then this morning she threw up again, and now has a fever too.
It seems strange, usually 24hrs and she bounces right back, and she has never had a fever with it. She is also saying her tummy is hurting around her belly button.

I am so frustrated with the medical side of things here, getting an appointment at short notice is just not possible, and then ofcourse being Friday, getting anything for the weekend is even worse...

With Gastro it's best to stop all food intake except water and gastrolite or similiar (fluid or ice blocks) until the body has cleared the bug out of the gut. At the minimuim some plain rice but anything else would feed the bug.

A constant high temperature is always a worry and I would take her to A & E if really concerned and not wait around for a doc appt. I always work on better to be safe then sorry.

Hope your DD gets better soon, nothing more miserable then nursing a sick child and wishing it was you instead of them.

thanks for that, she is saying she is dizzy, as she obviously has no food inside her at all, but the rice is a good idea, might cook some up for her.... only thing is I am not wishing it was me, gastro and 6 months pg, is not something I wish for myself right now...

    Hi Nuddle,
My DS1(nearly 3yo) came down with the same thing Tuesday night. He started off with a fever, around 5:30am, had a couple of diarrhea nappies. I took him to the Dr's as the fever was a concern and he said it is viral gastro (which explained the high temps). He said to keep the clear fluids up and avoid solids till the vomiting passes.
It lasted about 48hrs with him but he now has thrush in his mouth instead. He was saying his tummy hurt too.
If you get at all concerner and your DD becomes really lethargic, hot dry skin or the vomiting doesnt settle then take her to the hospital to be checked out.
Also try to keep any other kids away and remember a good handwash after touching or cleaning up after her can help to prevent the germ from spreading by up to 90%.
I hope she is feeling better real soon and that you dont get the horrid bug.

    Mel

ETA: Im glad my son got it now and not for Xmas (wish he didnt get sick at all though)

No worries. Yes it does help when they can tell you whats hurting etc. Not so good when they tell you to go away when you have paracetamol to give them and they clench there jaws so tight you need a crowbar to ply them apart enough to get the medicine in....lol

    Hi Nuds
Weve just had it here in Adelaide, like an epidemic, going through the town. I was in bed all day Sunday, my Dad had to take the kids for the night, cause we couldnt get out of bed and feed them or anything. My Dad rang A & E for me, he was worried about the baby, they said just to have gastrolyte, and sit it out, Ainsely had it the week before, from both ends also, poor thing.

Good news is that it is only a 24-36 hour thing, and passes, I just used a cold cloth on head, and dry toast, ooh, and a bucket near the loo helps..

I know just what you mean. My DD is 18mnths old and has had it since Wednesday also. Yesterday she was alright and then she got sick again in the evening and is still not well. She has had a fever also. I have found that she gets worse if I give her milk products. So try avioding those. My girl has lost so much weight and she was already small for 18mnths. Like you I am concerned and would like to know if there is anythingelse we can do other than to restrick food and give plenty of liquids. My girl is also having pediolight (SP).

Hope your girl gets well soon.
