    Default Appendectomy Scars

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with appendectomy scars while pregnant ? Everyone says your belly button normally pops out but mine has a scar right through the middle and am worried it will be painful ! I am 26 weeks at the moment.

I haven't had appendix - but have had 2 other abdo keyhole surgeries. I am 37 weeks. Definitely still an innie belly button and no issues with scars stretching or being painful

I have a big scar through my belly button from a previous belly button ring and it stretched/became slightly red in the third Tri but never hurt or anything. I've also got a big appendectomy scar thanks to emergency surgery and having to be re-opened due to infection and so far so good in this preg (only 14 weeks in)- I am a bit scared about how this will stretch !!

    Default Appendectomy Scars

@Perkins02 how long since your appendectomy? This might make a difference as far as pain is concerned although if it's healed properly, I can't see why it would hurt..

I had an appendectomy (lap surgery) 2 years ago and just had a baby last week. I didn't have any issues with the scar tissue around my belly button. I did have some pain earlier in 1st trimester around where the appendix used to be, especially when I was having ultrasounds. But other than that, it had no impact on my pregnancy.

I had 3 pregnancies after my appendectomy and like you Perkins02, I have a scar right through the middle of my belly button (I have an innie) and it's a keloid scar, but through the pregnancies I never had any issues with any of the scars.

I've not had an appendectomy but have four scars on my belly from a laparoscopy which I had 12 months before falling pregnant, plus one from a belly button ring. My belly button never popped out (much to my disappointment!) and I never had any pain in any of my scars. Weirdly one of my scars stretched from about 1.5cm long to maybe 2.5-3cm long but the others didn't.

I've since had a cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) so I've added another four scars to my abdomen. It'll be interesting to see how they fare if I get pregnant again.

I have a 30cm long scar above my bellybutton. My bellybutton didn't pop out with my pregnancies and I had no pain associated with the scar.

Thanks guys I feel a lot better about it hearing your stories - it was about 6 years ago so an old scar, will keep putting Bio Oil on it to keep it soft 🙂

I had my appendix out when I was 12 weeks pregnant with my second. I think because it was so new the scars did itch a bit as my belly grew.

There is 20 months between my second and third and my scars weren't an issue at all with my third.

I had no issues with my appendectomy scar (no pain, itching or anything like that). It did keep my belly button in place though, so it never popped out.
