I didn't need to pee... I would've done it in the bath if I had... I couldn't have gotten up with my contractions the way they were.

Yea once I was in the bath there was no getting out. I was only in there for maybe 30mins

I've read a bit lately about how a bath can slow labour down for some people and also trying to picture what position would work best for delivery in the bath. So far, all is looking good for me to be able to have a water birth - so will just come down to what happens on the day that might change this, so I just want to be sure I have a better idea of roughly what to expect. The midwife did explain that we can get out the bath whenever we want throughout the labour but that if you're out the water when the baby is crowning then you need to stay above the water for delivery.

    thanks!
Thank you for your lovely comment in the other thread!

Now that I've had the water birth I can answer this question

I went in with the intention to have a water birth and I was planning to get into the water when I felt I was close to delivering baby. But when I got there, the MW had already filled the bath for me and encouraged me to get in, even though I was only at 3cm.. She told me it won't slow things down.

I got in and spent about half an hour in the water but I did feel that the contractions had practically stopped while I was in there. as soon as I would stand up to go to the toilet or shift my weight out of the water I would have a contraction, so I decided to get out, dry off, get dressed and try something else..

Spent a good hour bouncing on a fitball until the contractions were getting really bad, then I got back in the water and stayed there until after Bub was born. That was only a short time though.. About half an hour from getting back in the water to pushing him out.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and I hope you get your water birth!

    Thanks @witherwings for the info!

Good to know that if I do find things calm/slow then I'll get out the water for a while. It's so hard to anticipate things when some people dilate so slowly and others so quickly. Hopefully I can stay home as long as possible like you did.

Hope you and your little guy are doing well!
